Friday Night Fun and Culture: Grateful Dead

Yeah, I’m a Deadhead, maybe not a total Deadhead, but a Deadhead nonetheless.  I actually saw them play in the middle of Haight Street outside the Straight Theater after a riot in the spring of 1968.

So when they had a Dead concert on the local PBS Begathon last night I decided this called for the Dead to fill the Friday Night Fun and Culture slot.

I have to agree with you on this. I saw them about thirty years ago with Nicky Hopkins on piano, and Gerry had an instrument like a theramin. Halloween show at Wembley Arena (London, UK). Was one of the best concerts I’ve been too. The audio is available in the Internet Archives. Hearing “Werewolves of London” to an audience dressed in Halloween garb, all howling, was something I’ll never forget. The air was so thick with smoke, I got stoned just breathing.
