Ashley Love is Barred from Commenting on this Blog

Yesterday Ashley Love came here and left a comment that was so grossly insulting as to result in my barring her from commenting on this blog and my defriending her on Facebook.

You do not come to my house and personally insult me.

Perhaps your total lack of manners is a result of your growing up an over privileged brat.

To paraphrase Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind, “Frankly Ashley, I don’t give a damn.”

I have been forced to rethink our interactions over the past few  years and have come to the conclusion that people like Bil Browning of Bilerico have your number.

You are so self-centered and vapid I doubt you were aware I had your number as early as when I defended you from Autumn Sandeen’s three part attack.

Actually Sandeen had your number and was right on the money in what she said about you.

Nonetheless I saw Autumn as bullying you and I came to your defense.

That was when you made your first mistake.

Instead of realizing I see myself as an underground journalist and not as your publicity agent you whined and pouted about my defense of you and my saying you had made mean and malicious comments regarding Autumn Sandeen.

I write what I honestly think and try to get my readers to follow stories I am following in the news. I am not a  publicity agent dedicated to polishing the image of someone I consider both ignorant and arrogant.

The combination of ignorant and arrogant combined with self-confident and spoiled is a combination of the less than charming traits I see in so many millennials, the fucked up children of the Reagan era.

Poor Ashley Love…  She just can’t help it.  She makes mean, nasty, malicious comments about people because she is a mean nasty person.

An Airhead who thinks she is a leader when in point of fact she is an attention whore.

As I said others have her number too:

From Bilerico: October 25, 2011  OWS: Ashley Love Strikes Again

Over on n+1 there’s a report out of Occupy Wall Street and the problems they’ve had with a group of drummers who’ve been irritating other protestors and city officials with the noise at all hours. Buried in a missive about the ongoing negotiations with the drummers is this blind item about a transgender woman (emphasis mine) who’s bogging down the process so much that ” the board’s trust in the demonstrators to police themselves and keep their word may be broken beyond repair.”

Unfortunately there is one individual who is NOT a drummer but who claims to speak for the drummers who has been a deeply disruptive force, attacking the drumming rep during the GA and derailing his proposal, and disrupting the community board meeting, as well as the OWS community relations meeting. She has also created strife and divisions within the POC caucus, calling many members who are not ‘on her side’ “Uncle Tom”, “the 1%”, “Barbie” “not Palestinian enough” “Wall Street politicians” “not black enough” “sell-outs”, etc. People have been documenting her disruptions, and her campaign of misinformation, and instigations. She also has a documented history online of defamatory, divisive and disruptive behavior within the LGBT (esp. transgender) communities. Her disruptions have made it hard to have constructive conversations and productive resolutions to conflicts in a variety of forums in the past several days.

From The Gothamist: October 25, 2011  Occupy Wall Street To Request 4-Hour Drumming Schedule At Tonight’s CB 1 Meeting

While the issues of public defecation and police barricades creeped into the discussion, the CB 1 meeting was dominated by a search for compromise on drumming at Occupy Wall Street. Most everyone agreed that it should be limited to 2 hours a day, preferably from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. during rush hour. These were the terms agreed to by the committees and de facto OWS spokesman Han Shan. Yet the loud outbursts during the meeting by one woman were a portent: some drummers wouldn’t be reasoned with.

This protester, who identifies herself as Ashley Love, shouted “four hours!” several times while CB 1 members were speaking, to the anger and frustration of her peers sitting around her. One tugged on her sleeve, pleading her to stop before creating another impasse.

A “respected activist” who refused to be named described her to n+1 thusly:

Our reporter approached the drummers this afternoon around 1 p.m., and they were playing with gusto. “You can’t keep this fire I’ve got in me quiet,” said one drummer who declined to be named but noted that he was not with Pulse. “Throw me behind bars, I’ll make noise on those too.”

We’ll be there to see if Love, (who some OWS protesters believe is a media saboteur) interrupts the full board meeting again, and whether or not CB 1 will approve of drumming between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. If enough residents turn out to complain, the board’s trust in the demonstrators to police themselves and keep their word may be broken beyond repair.

During phone conversations with Ashley, I have often found myself appalled by her homophobia as well as her dismissal of the concerns of gay and lesbian people.

Further, she has on numerous occasions exhibited a dismissive attitude towards lesbian TS/TG sisters, almost a sort of heterosexist contempt towards our needs and concerns within the LGBT/T communities.

This carries over to a contempt for non-TG/TS lesbians and gay men.  A sense of entitlement that views us as staff to be used to promote Ashley Love.

I grew up in a working class family.  I was taught manners, including expressing gratitude to people who do me favors and who give me assistance.

I have been highly appreciative of the legal assistance I have seen GLAAD give a number of transsexual and transgender women over the last few years.  I may disagree with their style guide, just as I disagree with many people in the TS/TG communities who insist TS/TG sisters and brothers only discuss their lives and experiences in politically correct approved terms.

As I said, I was raised with some manners even though many find me blunt and rude with writing that doesn’t shy away from the f-word.

I know better than to picket or demonstrate against an organization that is providing the legal muscle that is helping TS/TG people win important cases or in the case of Jenna Talackova, a high visibility case.

I know enough to say thank you.

When I call someone on the phone and their partner answers I don’t just rudely ask for the party I wish to speak to.  I say hello and ask if I may please speak to the person I am trying to reach.

Over the last few months Ashley Love has become more and more involved with the HBS/Classic  transsexual cult, a group of transsexuals, who for reasons invisible to outsiders see themselves as some sort of transsexual elite.  Perhaps it is their clinging to some sort of ideology, but their belief in their specialness empowers them to call other transsexual women all sorts of nasty names.

Recently Ashley Love made contemptuous remarks about Jenna, as well as Janet Mock and Isis King.

Perhaps she is jealous of their being seen as credible spokes people while Ashley, who so desperately craves the attention that falls upon a leader is seen as a joke.

Poor Ashley…

Perhaps the Jennifer Ushers of the world will make her their leader.

Say, could you link to the comment or quote part of it? Or was it too disgusting to do so?

  2. tinagrrl Says:

Suzan let me read it. After about one paragraph, I stopped. Did not need to read any more. It was an insane personal attack. Crazy accusations that could have been furthered by folks who have attacked Suzan for years, or from a fevered mind, full of rage at being DISAGREED WITH (HOW DARE YOU DISAGREE WITH ME!!). Nothing more need be said.

By the way, I’m the person that was dismissed by Ashley the many times she called for Suzan. Never even a “hello” — I guess the fact I was not useful to her meant she did not have to spend any time, charm, or politeness on me.

Poor child, so sure of her superiority she need not spend time on those who are of no use to her.

  3. BlackSwan Says:

Ashley has been a bit of a parasite in her tactics, begging others for funds to support her cause, and if you refuse her you are labeled a sell-out to GLAAD or Gay Inc.. Sorry Suzan to say it but others have told you so yet you still defended her. Ashley’s puerile insanity or ego will be her undoing unless she wakes up from her elitist rose colored fog.

  4. Autumn Sandeen Says:

I’m so sorry you’ve had the experiences you’ve had with Ashley.

She struck me as an incredible young adult with tremendous potential when I first met her in 2007. Sadly, she maginalizes herself these days with the choice of language she uses; she hasn’t lived up to that potential she beautifully showed those handful of years ago. What an incredible waste of charisma and talent.

    • Suzan Says:

I’ve attracted a lot of heat since I withdrew fro the transwars. I realized that neither the HBS dogmatists nor the TG dogmatists gave a damn about respecting others. I also became Facebook friends with many other sisters and brothers who are writers/bloggers. I discovered the vast majority of us are not participating in this war.

I am fully aware of how tyrannical our society has become in the demands place on people regarding identification. Having the same level of Identification required by society to function is a human right.

If the struggle is about human right, equality, liberty and freedom why would I waste my time on the Transwars?

  5. Kelli Anne Busey Says:

I’m going to say one thing, well maybe more than one….I like and respect you Suzan not because we agree on everything but because you are rational, considerate, a Texan and have a really nice blog that I love to get mentioned on..whew the hits:)))
Anyways…yeah really too bad about Ashley. We started off strong during the ‘ticked off Tra##ies with knives’ campaign and our successful bid to end equality Maryland’s unequal sell out, but during that time I started to see a change in her.
More and more her facebook posts were separatists and elitist focused and the few conversations I was invited to were so toxic I didn’t take the bait until I made the mistake of commenting on one she tagged me on then….it really sucked.
I blocked her for the third and final time. Too bad she really rocked the NAACP meeting but I guess that was just narcissism after all..but my final observation is…
this and its not about you or your article Suzan but I guess the Trans News will publish articles highly critical of one ‘of our own’ after all as long as they agree with it…..

  6. Kelli Anne Busey Says:

Actually I was really reluctant to friending anyone who appeared to have the same ideology as Love’s Woman Born Transsexual crew but after meeting and getting to know you Suzan I detoxed, relaxed and learned. You are such a valuable member of the human race and a bridge to further understanding what it all means..

    • Suzan Says:

Kelli… Originally Tina and I coined “women born transsexual” in reaction to all the Bailey-Blanchard psychobabble pathologizing crap. It was simply a way of saying, “Screw this pathology crap, we were born this way!”

A lot of parasites tried to make it into something else, even when we had sort of a semi-closed list where we were discussing dealing with life after SRS. (While many pre-op or non-op folks have an idealized view of life after post-op people still need a space where the bulk of conversation isn’t about transition issues.)

We were hit with people trying to use WBT for their own ends as well as people who thought it elitist for wanting a space to deal with life after SRS.

Tina and I wound up fighting with those who wanted to make it some sort of elitist thing where only certain kind of transsexuals were really WBT. The first battle was about those who come out young vs those who come out in middle age. Then those who are straight after SRS vs those who are lesbian or in the case of T to M gay men.

Eventually those who were trying to turn it into an elitist thing latched on to HBS, which was introduced by someone from Spain who originally wanted to call it Benjamin Syndrome, the initials of which made me think she was fucking with us.

As for my not embracing transgender as a label. I was transsexual for a long time before transgender came in to usage. If some one wants to use transgender for themselves I don’t have a problem with that. I just prefer transsexual as a way of describing myself.

Mutual respect for each others labels would go a long way in ending the Transwars although I have come to think the dogmatists in both camps live to fight in the on line flame wars.

  7. tinagrrl Says:

Women Born Transsexual was also born after we REQUESTED (not DEMANDED, but REQUESTED) folks say, “transgender and transsexual”, or “transsexual and transgender” instead of just “transgender” to describe ALL of us.

I, along with Suzan, was one of the folks who did not identify as TG in any way. I saw, and still see it as a way to keep us separate from the sex we had SRS to show our personal truth. I did not go through all the upheaval, pain, cost – in friends, money, and career – to be this “third” so beloved of Kate Bornstein and others.

There was no desire on my part to be some sort of “warrior” — not when I was finally, for the first time in my life, actually comfortable in my skin, in my body.

It just seemed all the “TG Leaders” had neither time nor place for folks like me.

Our REQUEST was made fun of, we were laughed at, we were banned from some sites. I was BANNED from “Pam’s house Blend” for disagreeing with Autumn S.

Our viewpoint, our take on things was twisted, lied about, and even co-opted by folks who had no idea what we, or WBT was about.

Just saying “we are not TG” was spun into, “we are ELITIST!!”. Folks took “different” to mean “better than”. Suddenly, WBT was attacked, as was (mostly) Suzan (I guess a lot of folks see me as her sidekick, or something. That actually gives me the freedom to say damn well what I please — it’s all good). Some folks see any deviation from THEIR “party line” as somehow “evil”.

Next we were attacked by those of the (now) BS/HBS/Classic Transsexual groups for not being “pure” enough. As I said to Suzan, we must be doing something right — they all hate us. Heck, Ashley even called Suzan a “crossdresser”, a “man”, saying we are “Dudes Born Transsexual” for NOT AGREEING WITH HER “BRAIN SEX” STANCE>

WBT is not anti-anyone (except Republicans, Religious-Right-Wing-KKKonservatives, and their Anti-Damn-Near-Everyone-Rad-Fem-Auxiliary).

I am no longer a participant in “the trans-wars” (trade make applied for), and just comment on this blog as someone who hates the strange turns The USA has taken in the last 30+ years.

I still stand by WBT, still reject TG as an attempt to define my life by those who have no right to do so, still see the “TG-Borg” as attempting to co-opt post-op, pre-op, TS, post-TS, WBT, for their own use, their own benefit.

That said, I maintain ALL human beings have equal rights. TG folks have all the same civil rights, rights to their identity, passports, etc., etc. all folks have. Being different does not strip you of your citizenship — as long as the intent is not criminal.

I reject the HBS/Classic Transsexual idea of, “I’m a better post-op than you”, “I’m more ‘real’ than you”, “I’m just better than all of you, in any way”. I reject their fanatical anti-GLAAD, , anti-HBS, anti-Transgender positions.

Oh, and by the way, I reject the ANTI-WOMAN positions all those groups take. Stand with women. Stand in “the girls queue”. Accept the simple fact you are just another woman, and go from there.

  8. Denise Norris Says:

Some people walk the walk and accomplish things. Others simply talk the talk and annoy those that are accomplishing things. Ashley is the latter of the two.

  9. Robyn Webb Says:

She’s attempted to put the touch on me numerous times….

  10. BlackSwan Says:

As well as I, her machinations and M.O. are a clear indication of a lack of empathy for others, and at the same time illuninating her selfish elitism. She attempts to play the victim/race card all the time, but she is really an Orange County California (GOPville) raised privileged private school child. I too was fooled by her poor-little-girl act.

  11. Cristan Williams Says:

I’ve talked to a number of folks and the consensus all seems to be the same: what a shame. She can seem really intelligent and articulate; she has so much energy and potential… and it’s wasted. She seems to be burning bridges with anyone and everyone…

    • Suzan Says:

I quit the fighting. I have my identity and others can have their identity. We, all minority groups along with women who care about being something other than servants and incubators are facing a battle against a political movement that is every bit as dangerous as the Nazi Party, perhaps even more so since they seem to desire the Apocalypse and are doing everything they possibly can to insure no action is taken on the environment and climate change.

I am a part of several movements. My political involvement isn’t solely focused on the TS/TG Movement nor even the LGBT Movement.

Indeed as a woman and as a feminist I find the whole idea of brain sex to be reactionary and anti-woman, with historical precedents rooted in misogyny.

To be called names and such by someone who is lacking in an analysis and only interested in getting her picture in the media is like being insulted by Paris Hilton.

  12. evmaroon Says:

Ive found her to be one of the most divisive, unhelpful people in the trans community. I’m sorry you had to go through that. Hang in there!
