National anti-gay marriage group commits $1 million

Is there any doubt that NOM is a religion funded, faith based Hate Group?

How will my marriage harm straight people’s marriage?

Damn I feel like Cindy Sheehan asking George the Lesser the question as to why her son was sent to die in the futile wars in the Middle East,  “What noble cause?”

Why are these hateful bigots incapable of giving  an honest answer that doesn’t make them sound like they are from another planet?

From The Baltimore Sun: http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/local/politics/2011/03/national_antigay_marriage_grou.html

March 9, 2011

The National Organization for Marriage today pledged at least $1 million to help defeat Republicans who favor same-sex marriage and assist the campaigns of Democrats who oppose it.

The announcement came as the Maryland House of Delegates today moved the legislation a step closer to a final vote. More debate is planned for Friday, and it is unclear whether the marriage bill has the 71 votes needed for passage.

“We know where the people of Maryland stand, and legislators need to listen to their constituents,” said Brian Brown, president of the National Organization for Marriage. “If they don’t, we’re here to help hold them accountable.”

The national group says it will form a political action committee in Maryland with the aim of ousting Republicans who “abandon the party position,” Brown said. Money also will flow to Democrats who vote against the same-sex marriage bill, he said.

The only legislator specifically in NOM’s crosshairs so far is Sen. Allan H. Kittleman of Howard County. He was the lone Republican senator to vote in favor of the bill.

Brown said NOM will be closely watching how Republican delegates vote.

Do We Need a General Strike?

From Common Dreams: http://www.commondreams.org/view/2011/03/10-18

by Peter Rothberg

Published on Thursday, March 10, 2011 by The Nation

It seems to me that just the very fact that the idea of a general strike is being discussed shows how far our political discourse has come and how deeply Scott Walker and prolonged economic anxiety have radicalized otherwise moderate masses.

Walker’s bill reaches far beyond just public sector unions and his stripping of public workers’ right to bargain affects the rights of everyone who works for a living. This attack on workers’ rights, if allowed to stand, won’t stop with the public sector or with Wisconsin. These anti-union bills are already spreading around the country from Indiana to Ohio to Nebraska to Michigan.

The IWW website is making a strong case for a general strike as the most effective tool to combat Walker’s bill and copycat legislation cropping up in numerous other states.

“A general strike against Walker would begin the process of rebuilding a strong labor movement in the United States. Since the US plays such an important role in the global economy and world political system, this could also invigorate workers’ struggles around the planet. To make it happen will require participation from many people across industries, across unions, and across the country.”

Daniel Ellsberg: Obama ‘needs to get a grip’

From Raw Story: http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/03/11/daniel-ellsberg-obama-needs-to-get-a-grip/

By Muriel Kane
Friday, March 11th, 2011

Vietnam War era whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg slammed President Barack Obama’s assertion Friday that the Pentagon has assured him the terms of Pfc. Bradley Manning’s confinement “are appropriate and are meeting our basic standards.”

Manning has been in a military brig since last summer under suspicion of being the source of a massive transfer of secret United States documents to WikiLeaks and has been subjected to increasingly harsh conditions,

Ellsberg, a former military analyst known for having leaked the Pentagon Papers to the New York Times and other papers in 1971, fired off a quick response to Obama’s remarks in an op-ed for the Guardian, writing, “If Obama believes that, he’ll believe anything. I would hope he would know better than to ask the perpetrators whether they’ve been behaving appropriately.”

“I can just hear President Nixon saying to a press conference the same thing,” Ellsberg suggested, making a sarcastic reference to his own history as a whistleblower: “‘I was assured by the the White House Plumbers that their burglary of the office of Daniel Ellsberg’s doctor in Los Angeles was appropriate and met basic standards.'”

“If President Obama really doesn’t yet know the actual conditions of Manning’s detention,” Ellsberg added, “if he really believes, as he’s said, that ‘some of this [nudity, isolation, harassment, sleep-deprivation] has to do with Private Manning’s wellbeing’, despite the contrary judgments of the prison psychologist – then he’s being lied to, and he needs to get a grip on his administration.”

Restrooms and Blood Libels: The Misogynistic Anti-LGBT/T Lie.

I find it highly ironic that people who generally wish to deny women equality on any level (for the sake of the family), deny women control over their own bodies (for the sake of the ovum and sperm, blastocysts) continue to whip out the peril in the restroom red herring they used to defeat the ERA.

These are the same people who blame the eleven year old girl for getting gang raped by adult men.  She was dressed too mature for her age (Hannah Montana and princesses come to mind as do child beauty pageants).

Since when have these douche nozzles given a damn about women’s rights?

Do you think if these douche nozzles cared, I mean really cared about women and their rights, they would be passing mandatory sonogram laws and requiring legal investigations of miscarriages?

Hell no.

What these fucks are about is ignorant bigotry wrapped in a flag and carrying a Bible.

Like mindless zombies called forth by Taliban like Christians, people who truly hate women to be anything but slaves and servants to men, in an updated version of Kinder, Küche, Kirche, these douche nozzles have found what they consider to be the magic charm in their battle against women as well as LGBT/T people.

The blood libel of LGBT/T people being pedophiles, sexual deviants drooling in uncontrollable lust over the thought of being able to contaminate straight people and lure them into our “dark jungle of deviance”.

For in their mind’s eye everyone is born straight and no one is ever so uncomfortable in their own body as to have to have sex reassignment, or so uncomfortable in the gender of rearing as to live in the gender they were not assigned at birth.

It must have been the gym teacher, or art teacher, or the lesbian couple on TV, the TG/TS person my child saw. (obvious because she taking her first  clumsy steps in public after a lifetime of denial).

The Blood Libel is the defense of every murderer who sought out a TS/TG sex worker victim, knowing that if he were caught he would have the ready made defense, too often accepted, “The pervert deceived me”, even though I picked her up in an area of town, on a block where all the sex workers are trans, or in a “drag” bar.

A version of the Blood Libel was used in defense of DADT.  The queer in the shower lusting uncontrollably for the bodies of the straights in the shower with him or her.  Never mind that LGBT/T people write in their biographies about the extreme discomfort they felt having to shower with straights during high school.

Pedophilia…  Never mind the level of incest by fathers, grandfathers, uncles, cousins, brothers reported by so many women during the 1970s when feminism meant women standing up for themselves.  Never mind that so many cases of pedophilia are done by religious figures as to cause one to wonder if it is a mandatory part of the Catholic priesthood. Never mind that the people of the town where the rape of the eleven year old girl occurred are standing up in support of the rapists and are condemning the girl as having “asked for it.”

Where is the protection of women and girls from the real rapists and pedophiles?

Isn’t it hypocritical to have Right Wing douche nozzles who go through wives like they were disposable objects, to be used and discarded for a newer model, base their denial of marriage equality on the meme “Gay marriage will destroy the institution of marriage.”?  Are they vampires who can’t see their own image mirrored in their hypocritical words?

These shameless peddlers of bigotry and slander trot out the same tired tropes for every single freaking issue regarding LGBT/T rights and have been doing so since the days of the tired ugly Orange Juice  Queen Anita Bryant.

These tropes circulate and echo through out the Republican party and the religious right just the way the anti-Semitic “Protocols of the Elders of Zion” used to.  Has there ever been a kkkonservative  organization where  the phrase “family values” wasn’t a euphemism for fascist values or bigoted values?

There is a power in our stories.  The reason the straights try to erase our stories is because they are afraid of their power.  Most LGBT/T people were born into straight families.  We grew up with the hate, the abuse.  we carry the scars and we still grew up to be LGBT/T.  Because the real reason Tina and I created the meme “Women Born Transsexual” was because we were born this way.  We know this in our bones and we don’t need Lady Gaga making a ton of money to tell us this simple truth.

We were born this way and the real perversion in our lives came from those who tried to tell us different, tried to tell us we were sick or evil.  The real perverts pointed the fingers and tried to label us perverted to cover their own secrets.

The obviousness of the blood libel regarding “transgender perverts” using the women’s restroom should be apparent to anyone with half a brain  considering that transsexualism and transgenderism has just about the same number of people assigned female at birth as it does people people assigned male at birth.

Another aspect that should be taken into account is the fact that TS/TG people are many times more likely to be the victim of assault, rape and murder by a straight person than straight people are to have the same crime committed by one of us upon them.

Lastly it is bad enough when straights invoke this blood libel upon us.  It is like a knife through the heart when gay men or especially lesbian feminists pull this blood libel forth.

Yet the most painful of all is when people who had the same operation I had, try to pretend they are so superior, so assimilated that they are too good to call what they were treated for transsexualism and have to call it something else like “classic transsexualism” or HBS then turn around and call everyone else “perverted men in dresses” .  When people like that start spewing the same blood libel as the Taliban Christians and the rabid right wing… Well that just makes me want to vomit.

The Real Class War

I have long pointed out that there has been a serious class war waged against middle class and lower class working people ever since the election of Richard Nixon in 1968.  Even prior to that the history of the US has been a history of class war waged by the rich upon the working people.

This class war has made a mockery of the very idea that people who work for a living are free when we are basically indentured servants, wage slaves dependent upon forces we have no control over.

The hard working people who built this nation on their sweat and blood have been mercilessly exploited by the idle unproductive rich who use their vast wealth to own and control the lives of the working people.

Ayn Rand’s thinking is more poisonous than Machiavelli, it spawned the greed is good ethos of our times which has enslaved more people than any other totalitarian philosophy in the past.

Time to end the neo-liberalism of the “free market” and “free trade”.

Time to end the transfer of the wealth from those who produce the wealth into the hands of those  who exploit the people who create the wealth.

Time to end the dominance of the rich.

Time for the workers to gain control over the conditions of their production and the profits from their labors.

For too long working class people have been called upon to fight wars that profit the rich while turning the working people into murderers of other working people for the benefits of the rich.

For too long class war has been a one sided war waged by the rich upon the poor.

Class war should no longer be just for the rich.

I saw the chart below first on Andrew Sullivan’s blog but he got it from Daily Kos, Greywolfe359, who in turn got it from a Facebook  page “The Christian Left”.

Discrimination Debate

If you care at all about abuse and injustice…  If you have any memory of the history of discrimination against LGB and especially TS/TG folks the last 40 years you recognize the same old tired blood libel the bible thumping right wing bullies and bigots trot out every time.

For what it is worth get as many F to M people in there as possible.  Make it know that TS/TG happens in both directions.

Maryland House committee fields testimony on bill to protect transgender community
by Yusef Najafi
Published on March 9, 2011

”If you stick me in a dress and heels, you’re not going to find me any more fit for my job,” said Sama Bellomo in front of the Maryland House of Delegates Health and Government Operations Committee today.

Bellomo was one of many testifying in support of legislation that would prohibit discrimination in the areas of housing, employment, licensing and commercial leasing, against transgender Marylanders.

The committee began hearing testimony from supporters of the legislation, with introduction by the bill’s lead sponsor Del. Joseline Pena-Melnyk (D- Anne Arundel, Prince George’s), shortly after 1 p.m. and continued until opponents took the stand around 3:30 p.m. The hearing concluded around 4:30 p.m.

Similar legislation, which included protections for transgender people with regard to Maryland public accommodations, has failed in the past. Yet despite the current bill’s exclusion of public accommodations, the opposition’s arguments have changed little: Such nondiscrimination legislation would confuse children and enable male pedophiles and rapists by allowing them access to women’s bathrooms.

”I had questions with my own sexuality, until God said ‘You’re a man, put away these childhood things,”’ testified Robert Broadus, a Marylander opposing the legislation. ”Don’t invade our rights to tell our children what we believe. … We believe that a man should be a man and a woman should be a woman.”

The Wire producer: War on drugs is ‘a war on the underclass’

From Raw Story:  http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/03/10/the-wire-producer-war-on-drugs-is-a-war-on-the-underclass/

By Eric W. Dolan
Thursday, March 10th, 2011

David Simon, the creator and executive producer of HBO’s The Wire, said the war on drugs had devolved into a war on the underclass after actress Felicia Pearson was arrested in Baltimore on drug charges.

Thirty-year-old Pearson had served a prison sentence for murder before join the cast of The Wire, an television drama series about inner-city life in Baltimore that premiered in 2002 and ended five seasons later in 2008.

Pearson and over sixty others were arrested on Thursday as part of a five-month investigation by the DEA and Baltimore police, The Baltimore Sun reported.

“In places like West and East Baltimore, where the drug economy is now the only factory still hiring and where the educational system is so crippled that the vast majority of children are trained only for the corners, a legal campaign to imprison our most vulnerable and damaged citizens is little more than amoral,” Simon told Slate.

New Wave of Protests Fighting Banksters

From Common Dreams: http://www.commondreams.org/view/2011/03/10-15

by Laura Flanders

Published on Thursday, March 10, 2011 by Grit TV

It was tax day in 2009 that saw the first Tea Party protests, and the FOX-led media firestorm that’s followed has made it seem as though the Tea Party’s the only game in town if you want to complain about bailouts.

This year, though, as tax day approaches, a new wave of protest is sweeping the country.  On February 26th, inspired by the UK, US Uncut actions took place at Bank of America branches around the country—and all 50 states held solidarity rallies to support Wisconsin’s protesters.

Taxpayers connected with National People’s Action and other community-based groups occupied a Bank of America, protested the Attorneys General and the Republican congressional leaders this week. and as James Mumm of National People’s Action noted on GRITtv yesterday, this one actually represents the majority.  And diversity.

Compare the coverage with what followed every Tea Party outburst and you’d weep.

In February 2009, when one CNBC correspondent spoke out from the floor of the stock exchange against taxpayers’ help to beleaguered mortgage holders, Rick Santelli’s “rant” went viral thanks to web-based front groups of the corporate-funded right. Tax day protests a couple of months later were covered live on FOX and by June’s health care meetings, even a single wild-eyed ranter could snag prime time attention, on every show, on every network.
