I used to think people who carried on about “The New World Order” and one world governments were paranoid crazies, especially those who stock piled guns, food, and heritage seeds.
But land dykes, and back to the land hippies as well as the folks who subscribe to Mother Earth News tend to do some or all of those things too.
Now we might see different reasons or causes behind the erosion of our personal autonomy. The right wing lumpen prole might see the government and the left wing lumpen prole might see the the corporations but I’m beginning to get the feeling both groups are like blind people touching a different part of an elephant and then trying to describe the elephant.
I question authority and I am anti- Free Market corporatocracy I don’t see a whole lot of differences between Obama and Bush. Obama is smarter and better spoken but like his hero Reagan he is simply a puppet of the rich oligarchs who run the world for their own benefit and screw the rest of us.
I some times understand the position of gun owners. Better to die with the ability to resist than live as a slave. The funny thing is hearing the same thing from both Huey P. Newton and the right wingers at gun shows.
I’m an optimist. I continue to think people can change things , that this country isn’t a dictatorship like Egypt. Yet I wonder sometimes when the working class gets screwed over by the government which then takes our hard earned tax money and pours it in to war machinery and gives it to the already obscenely wealthy.
There are a million acts of resistance one can undertake. Living lives of voluntary simplicity is one course of action. Boycotting businesses with hateful practices, like Coors, Carl’s Jr, Domino’s Pizza, Chick fil-A are another.
But then there is getting in the streets and letting our displeasure be known. Twelve years ago I thought President Clinton was a good guy. The Democrats told me NAFTA was a wonderful thing and I believed them. When the Battle of Seattle happened I just didn’t get it.
When Francis Fukuyama prattled on about the “end of history” I didn’t realize he meant no more governments, no more representative democracy. I didn’t grasp that he meant from now on the New World Order would mean the world would be run by and for the benefit of the corporations and the rich oligarchs.
The real governments do not meet in our nations capitols anymore. They gather together at places like Davos, Toronto etc. The real governments go by names like the World Trade Organization and the G20.

Anti-capitalists clash with riot police in Davos
By Catherine Bosley
DAVOS, Switzerland | Sat Jan 29, 2011 3:52pm EST
DAVOS, Switzerland (Reuters) – Anti-capitalist protesters threw bottles at riot police on Saturday and officers responded with water cannon as a small demonstration on the final day of the World Economic Forum briefly turned violent.
The clash came after a group of about 100 mainly young, local protesters marched through the chic Swiss ski resort of Davos and gathered near the railway station, some distance from the conference center hosting the Forum.
It was the second episode of violence in Davos this week. Swiss anarchists claimed responsibility for a small explosion that broke windows and shook a hotel on Thursday where executives were meeting. Nobody was hurt in that incident.
Waving banners saying “Down with Capitalism” and “Stop Screwing Us on Salaries”, Saturday’s demonstrators marched along an approved snow-covered route taking them past the outer perimeter of the WEF’s elite meeting.
Organized by local socialists and Greens, the marchers complained that Davos, favored by top bankers, businessmen and politicians, had little to show for its 41 years of meetings.
“PAT EACH OTHER ON THE BACK”
“They come up here to do business, drink, eat and pat each other on the back,” said Karin Stiffner, a 39-year-old housewife in the march. “I don’t think there’s any interest in helping common people. It would just reduce their profits.”

Anti-depression drug sales up in Germany
DAVOS, Switzerland – After a brutal four days of world leaders’ speeches, schmoozing and wild parties, exhausted global delegates at the World Economic Forum were warned of the growing dangers of burnout for society.
Economic turmoil, round-the-clock communication and constant social pressure to succeed have led to a costly increase in stress-related illness and burnout, a panel of experts told a packed session in the Swiss ski resort of Davos.
“In the future, the greatest challenge to the global health system will be stress-related diseases,” said Heinz Schuepbach, director of the school of applied psychology at the University of Northwestern Switzerland.
The phenomenon is rapidly growing more prevalent, he added. According to a study this week by one of Germany’s top health insurance companies, one in five workers in Europe’s top economy has fallen ill from stress at work.
In the last four years, sales of anti-depression drugs have risen by more than 40 percent in Germany, the study showed.

Recreational drugs are bad and illegal. Expensive prescription drugs that keep people docile good slaves who never think of revolting are good.
