The Murder of a True American Hero, Dr. George Tiller

I just watched the Rachel Maddow special on the murder of a true American hero, Dr. George Tiller, by the “pro- life” terrorist, Scott Roeder.

Since the 1970s misogynistic Taliban Christian organizations have waged a terrorist campaign against women’s clinics.  The campaign of terror has included numerous bombings and murders which are condoned and encouraged by the leaders of organizations such as “Operation Rescue”>  The former head of “Operation Rescue”, a sociopathic scumbag named Randell Terry as well as other movement leaders meeky deny the blood that is on their hands.

One has to wonder where the Secret Police who infiltrate every single peace group and progressive organization are when it comes to these dangerous terrorist organizations.

Roeder is only the most recent in a string of assassins.  Where is the massive police campaign to destroy the terrorist  cells that perpetrate the clinic bombings?  Where are the under cover agents when these murderers are arming themselves?  Where are the grand juries that should be delivering the conspiracy indictments?

As for Dr. Tiller, he was a real hero, courageously facing down the hatred of this mass of crazed religious fanatics, who hate women and hate the freedom women have in America that was given them by Roe v. Wade.

State senator: If you want gays ‘shot in the head’ then vote GOP

There are two kinds of Democrats:  Those that speak the truth about Republi-Nazis and those who act “nice” and speak nice sounding bullshit instead of the truth.

Actually the first are “real Democrats and the latter are Democans.

The race for governor in Illinois is getting ugly.

At a “get out the vote” rally on the West Side of Chicago Saturday, state Senator Rickey Hendon lashed out at Republican gubernatorial nominee Bill Brady while introducing Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn.

“I’ve never served with such an idiotic, racist, sexist, homophobic person in my life,” Hendon said of Brady. “If you think that the minimum wage needs to be three dollars an hour, vote for Bill Brady. If you think that women have no rights whatsoever, except to have his children, vote for Bill Brady. If you think gay and lesbian people need to be locked up and shot in the head, vote for Bill Brady.”

Speaking to reporters after the event, Quinn declined to apologize for Hendon’s remarks. “I don’t associate myself with those comments,” he said.

“I believe in civility,” Quinn said. “I disagree with people in politics, like my opponent Sen. Brady. I don’t engage in name calling. Never have, never will.”

From Protester to Senator, FBI Tracked Paul Wellstone

From Common Dreams:  http://www.commondreams.org/headline/2010/10/25-3

Published on Monday, October 25, 2010 by Minnesota Public Radioby Madeleine Baran

It started with a fingerprint of a 25-year-old college professor who opposed the Vietnam War and ended with a search for his remains, 32 years later, in a wooded area near Eveleth, Minn.

The FBI’s files on Paul and Sheila Wellstone, many of which are being made public for the first time, shed new light on the extent of the relationship between the FBI and the political activist who would go on to become a U.S. senator from Minnesota.

Some of the information uncovered in the 219 pages was new to one of his closest confidantes, former Wellstone campaign manager and state director Jeff Blodgett.

The files show that although the FBI initially took interest in Wellstone as part of the broader surveillance of the American left, the agency later served as his protector, investigating death threats the freshman senator received for his views on the first Gulf War, and, in the end, helping sift through the wreckage of the fatal plane crash that killed Wellstone and seven others eight years ago.

Wellstone’s surviving sons declined to comment on the documents, which were obtained in response to a Freedom of Information Act request filed by MPR News.

The U.S. Department of Justice released 88 of the 125 pages in Sen. Wellstone’s FBI file, and 131 of the 227 pages in his wife’s file. All of the documents included in Sheila Wellstone’s file are related to the plane crash that killed the couple and their daughter Marcia.

The FBI did not include 76 pages related to the National Transportation Safety Board, the agency that investigated the crash. A request for those records is pending.

Gold’s Gym Takes Your Membership Fees and Gives Them to Anti-Gay Politicians

From Change.org: http://gayrights.change.org/blog/view/golds_gym_takes_your_membership_fees_and_gives_them_to_anti-gay_politicians

Everyone has a favorite machine at the gym, whether it’s the elliptical trainer, the pec deck, the ab machine, or the leg curl. For Robert Rowling, the CEO of the company that owns Gold’s Gym, we’re guessing his favorite machine is the treadmill. After all, he’s pretty good at running over his LGBT customers.

Rowling, head of TRT Holdings, which is the owner of Gold’s Gym, is spending quite a bit of money this election cycle. Upwards of $2 million to be exact, through both his corporate and personal bank accounts. Where is he sending that money, which he no doubt earns on the backs of many an LGBT customer?

Karl Rove. That’s right, the former Bush strategist, who co-founded a new political organization, American Crossroads, which is working to elect some of the most virulently anti-gay politicians in the country. Turns out that Rowling is one of a handful of big money men working to get Rove’s organization off the ground, helping to turn it into a power player among the political elite.

Who would have thought that giving money to Gold’s Gym could have such ugly consequences for the LGBT community?

Among the candidates that the owner of Gold’s Gym is working to elect include Nevada GOP senate candidate Sharron Angle, who is challenging Sen. Harry Reid. Angle, you might recall, has previously said that women who are raped should turn their lemons into lemonade, and that LGBT people should be barred from adopting children. And that’s only the tip of iceberg. In years past, Sharron Angle put her blessing behind an insert that went out to voters that said homosexuality would lead to the destruction of the United States, and called gay people “sodomites” and “perverts.” She even endorsed a statement that said there was no evidence to suggest homosexuality was biological, and that scientists who argue otherwise are flawed.

Thanks, Gold’s Gym!

‘You’ve done diddly squat’: actor Cumming slams Obama over gay rights

From Herald Scotland: http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/home-news/you-ve-done-diddly-squat-actor-cumming-slams-obama-over-gay-rights-1.1063379

24 Oct 2010

Alan Cumming has launched a scathing attack on Barack Obama and accused him of doing “diddly squat” to improve gay rights.

The Perthshire-born actor has been a vocal supporter of America’s first black President and even took US citizenship in order to vote for him.

However, the 45-year-old X-Men star has turned against his former political hero over Obama’s apparent reluctance to repeal the controversial “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy – which prevents openly gay men and women from serving in the US military.

The Democratic Party activist revealed the extent of his disillusionment in a strongly worded statement, saying: “We keep hearing that Obama is an ally, that ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ will end under his watch, but what do we actually get?

“Diddly squat thus far on a federal level, and in addition to that some very offensive statements that would have made the Republicans look bad.”

The graduate of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama claimed the US President risked fuelling anti-gay prejudice unless he delivered on his pre-election pledge to bring equal rights to the military.

“When America is full of hatred of all kinds, but especially hatred towards young gay people, what message is the President sending when he repeatedly goes out of his way to spread the message that the gay population is not worthy of the respect that everyone else is?

“How can we counsel our children not to bully their gay classmates or mock their gay friends when they see their President, their beloved President Obama, refusing to do the equivalent in regards to troops and other adults?”

Britain’s assault on pensions

From Socialist Worker: http://socialistworker.org/2010/10/25/britains-assault-on-pensions

By Eamonn McCann

Journalist Eamonn McCann explains how Britain’s new Tory government is imposing austerity measures that clamp down on retirees and the unemployed.

October 25, 2010

WHEN JOHN Hutton, at age 55, stepped down from public-sector employment last May, he collected a lump sum of around $100,000 and a pension entitlement of around $60,000 per year. Five months later, Lord Hutton, as he is now known, has published his review calling for public-sector pensions to be slashed and the retirement age raised.

Workers in the future should draw on their savings and assets, not depend solely on pensions, the former New Labour defense minister recommended in a report commissioned by the Conservative-Liberal Democrat government.

Hutton himself will be able to eke out his pension with undisclosed earnings from membership on the board of U.S. nuclear power company Hyperion Power Generation, which he joined in June. He also operates as a consultant on “public affairs and strategic communications” for public relations firm Apco Worldwide. And he chairs the defense think-tank, the Royal United Services Institute.

None of his additional earnings affects his Member of Parliament pension. Likewise for the roughly $500 tax-free allowance he pockets each day that he turns up at the House of Lords. That’s for attendance: he’s not required actually to do anything.

There was a hullabaloo of praise for Hutton’s review two weeks ago. These gold-plated public-sector pensions were no longer sustainable.

The average public-sector pension falls short of $7,836 per year–less than a seventh of Hutton’s. A quarter of civil service workers qualify for under $3,134 per year. Women local government workers pick up, on average, $2,507 per year.

The House is duty-bound to Bring Articles of Impeachment against Clarence Thomas

From Op-Ed News: http://www.opednews.com/articles/The-House-is-duty-bound-to-by-earl-ofari-hutchin-101024-749.html

By earl ofari hutchinson

10/25/2010

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas can and should be impeached. The case and the grounds for impeachment proceedings against him are virtually iron-clad. The evidence is compelling that Thomas perjured himself in his testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee during his court confirmation hearings in 1991. The evidence is equally compelling that this constituted lying under oath to Congress during the hearings.

The impeachment case against Thomas is not based on personal or political disagreement over his views, decisions, opinions and rulings on the bench, his penchant for pornographic material, or for sexual harassment. It is based on clear legal and constitutional grounds, precedents, and Congressional mandates. Article III, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution explicitly states that a Supreme Court Justice that “lacks good behavior” can be impeached. This is not an ambiguous, subjective term. It has been interpreted by the courts to equate to the same level of seriousness as the ‘high crimes and misdemeanors” clause that unequivocally mandates that the House of Representatives initiate impeachment proceedings against any public official, or federal judge in violation of that provision.

The Constitutional precept is the first legal ground for impeachment proceedings against Thomas. The second is Title 18 of the U.S. Code. It states that any official of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of the government of the United States who knowingly and willfully falsifies, conceals, or covers up by any trick, scheme, or device a material fact , makes any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation; or makes or uses any false writing or document knowing the same to contain any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or entry can be impeached. In other words lying to Congress is not only an impeachable offense. It’s also illegal.

It’s also clearly established that a public official whether the president, presidential appointees, or judges can be punished for giving false information and that’s any false information of any nature to the House or Senate.

Court Rejects Catholic Suit Against S.F.

From The Advocate.com: http://advocate.com/News/Daily_News/2010/10/25/Court_Rejects_Catholic_Suit_Against_SF/

October 25, 2010

Advocate Editors

A federal appeals court rejected a lawsuit Friday from Catholics who objected to San Francisco supervisors’ condemnation of the Vatican for prohibiting Catholic Charities from placing children with gay and lesbian couples for adoption.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, in an 8-3 ruling, “The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco denied requests by a Catholic organization and two local residents to order the city to repeal the supervisors’ 2006 resolution.”

However, while siding with the city, the splintered ruling did not decide the underlying issue of whether San Francisco had expressed official hostility toward Catholicism in violation of the church and state principle, as the Catholics argued.

An attorney for the Catholic group promised a further appeal, the Chronicle reported.

Employers increasingly weigh cuts to employee health coverage

From Raw Story: http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/10/employers-increasingly-weigh-cuts-employee-health-coverage/

By The Associated Press
Sunday, October 24th, 2010 — 9:32 pm

The new health care law wasn’t supposed to undercut employer plans that have provided most people in the U.S. with coverage for generations.

But last week a leading manufacturer told workers their costs will jump partly because of the law. Also, a Democratic governor laid out a scheme for employers to get out of health care by shifting workers into taxpayer-subsidized insurance markets that open in 2014.

While it’s too early to proclaim the demise of job-based coverage, corporate number crunchers are looking at options that could lead to major changes. Gov. Phil Bredesen, D-Tenn., said the economics of dropping coverage are “about to become very attractive to many employers, both public and private.”

That’s just not going to happen, White House officials say.

The problem is that Obama has as big a credibility factor as George Bush.  so far he hasn’t acted much like we should expect a Democratic President to act.  Across the board he has caved to the monopolistic corporate interests, to the war mongers, to the Christo-fascists and to the Republicans.

It was like the same puppet masters that brought us Bush brought us “change we can believe in” Obama who offered us hope while treating us like dopes.
