Blasting ‘Don’t Ask’ repeal, American Family Association claims ‘gay sex = domestic terrorism’

There’s a rumor going around that the Afghani Taliban is embedding dirty syringes and razors in improvised explosive devices, making hypothetical “HIV bombs,” or some variant of the term.

This has yet to be confirmed, but was claimed by Patrick Mercer, a British member of parliament and former soldier. UK tabloid The Sun ran with the allegation, saying the practice had been “exposed,” but presenting no actual evidence.

The story was carried in a number of other online venues, but at time of this writing it appeared that the only “mainstream” U.S. news bureau to feature the claim was Fox News, which erroneously — and perhaps mistakenly — called the scheme “a bid to infect British troops”.

How exactly these alleged Afghan bomb-makers could design HIV-laced weapons that target soldiers based on nationality, Fox News did not explain. The network instead cited The Sun as its only source, although not even the British tabloid made such an unusual statement.

The allegations were apparently enough for the American Family Association (AFA) to weigh in. As a conservative non-profit group best known for attacking marriage equality and homosexuals in other walks of public life, the focus of their response might have been expected. Instead, the AFA declared in a Thursday blog headline: “Gay sex = domestic terrorism”.

The nation of Iceland, which is the only country with an openly gay head of state, voted unanimously on Friday to legalize same-sex marriage.

The Althingi parliament voted 49-0 to change the wording of its marriage legislation to include same-sex couples.

Gunnar Helgi Kristinsson, a political scientist at the University of Iceland, told Reuters that the country is fairly pragmatic, and that the international press made a bigger deal out of the sexual orientation of lesbian Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir than the domestic news outlets.

Gay marriage, Kristinsson said, “has not been a big issue in national politics — it’s not been controversial.”

The Protestant church of Iceland has not yet decided whether to allow gay and lesbians to marry in its buildings.

I am currently reading about the McCarthy Era and the people called Reds in America.

I have never believed in “Godwin’s Rule” about not calling Nazis and fascists, Nazis and fascists. Mainly because there is no corollary “Windog Rule” that gets invoked when rabid right wingers call lefties “Commies”.

Therefore in my book the KKK, Aryan Nation, Teabaggers, Ann Coulter, Rush Limpdick, The AFA, make that any Xian organization with family or traditional in its name are Nazi groups.

Call me a Commie and I get to call you a Nazi.

Actually I would rather be called a “Commie” than a “Liberal”.

Liberal has a bad history of selling people out.  Compromising away those rights that should never be compromised.  Liberals stand for nothing because they are too moderate, too unwilling to fight for anything, too willing to seek compromise.

I am proud to be a Leftist. To stand up for workers rights and speak truth to power.  Ever since I read “Grapes of Wrath” Tom Joad’s soliloquy has been a part of my ethical system.

I was born in 1947, in an area of poverty where people regularly voted against their interests simply because once upon a time the Republican Party was anti-slavery.

My parents were New Deal Democrats in a Joe McCarthy era.  My father was a union man, a steel worker.

I learned my politics watching and reading stories about the murder of Emmet Till and the abuse of the student integrating the schools of Little Rock.

Did you realize that J. Edger Cocksucker Hoover considered anyone who supported racial equality to be a commie?  Well as far as I’m concerned he was nothing more than a cross dressing old Nazi homo.

I’ve heard so many lies about the 1960s I hardly recognize them as an era I lived through.

Those of us who were radicals in those days hated liberals.  It was the Democratic liberal, JFK who failed to defend the civil rights workers, brought on the Cuban Missile Crisis and first sent troops in the form of military advisers to Vietnam.

It was a later day liberal, Bill Clinton who pushed through NAFTA and globalized away the last of our industrial jobs effectively killing off the middle class aspirations of many working class people.

Now we have the wonderfully liberal Obama and the wonderfully liberal Democratic House and Senate that couldn’t pass a decent Health Care Reform Bill and won’t re-regulate Wall Street.

Hell they are wishy-washy on ending DADT.  ENDA… Don’t hold your breath…

Progressives, the reds are the ones who stand for all those things that are said to be the positions of liberals, but that “liberals” always seem ready to compromise away.

Some times it is necessary to stand for something.  For Example:  How can anyone question that BP should be held responsible and pay for every penny of cleaning up that oil spill even if it ends the existence of BP?  Not tax payers.  Why are corporate profits privatized and the damages they do the responsibility of governments and tax payers? Too big to fail should equal too big to be allowed to exist.

So I am not a liberal.  Perhaps a progressive but only if progressive is a new euphemism for all those values that got me labeled a commie when I was a young radical in SDS/Weather.

I saw the strangest freaking headline all week “Surgery no longer a requirement for changing gender on passport.”  WTF… WTF…  I examined my passport (I’ve had one since the early 1980s when it became possible to change the sex designation on one’s passport after SRS) and sure enough there never was a “gender” designation.

I despise the entire corrupting of language with this neo-Victorian bullshit.  Gender is how you dress and act.  Sex is male or female based on hole or pole just as doctors do at birth.

Surgery no longer a requirement for changing gender on passport

Washington (CNN) — The U.S. State Department announced Wednesday a new policy that no longer requires passport applicants seeking a gender change to have undergone sexual reassignment surgery.

The policy, which goes into effect Thursday, allows a gender change with a certification from an attending physician.

The doctor’s certification must confirm only that the passport applicant has undergone treatment for gender transition. Limited-validity passports for applicants who are in the process of gender transition also will be available under the policy.

Previously, individuals had to provide documentation from a surgeon that sex reassignment surgery had been performed on them, according to the National Center for Transgender Equality.

The announcement was made to coincide with Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Month, the State Department said.
