Last week I wrote a post on my blog about guy culture and anal sex. The gist of it was this

…the thing that really strikes me lately is a certain feature of hetero male culture that seems deeply inconsistent to me. If a group of straight guys is discussing something unpleasant, like a tax audit, or some stressful event at work, or an upcoming exam, or some interaction with police, they always, always, always use the same analogy. Which is? …you guessed it: getting fucked in the ass. Yep. That’s it. In hetero-man-language, this is how you convey that something is veryveryvery unpleasant and/or painful. It’s a staple in movies that are meant to appeal to men. The most recent instance of this that I’ve seen was in Hancock. But most male-oriented comedies and action movies play off this meme. We could talk about the latent homophobia involved here, or take this discussion in a number of different directions. But what’s really interesting to me is the deeply contradictory message involved.

Even as a teenager before I came out I had boys hitting on me with the implication that it wouldn’t make them queer to have me give them oral sex or to let themfuck me in the ass.  After all I was the transkid and they were opportunists.

In a stunning rebuke to the ultra right wing extremist Republican Governor Jim Douglas’ veto of the Vermont  marrage equality bill both the the house and Senate voted to override by more than a 2/3 majority.

House 100-49.   Senate 23-5

This means that lesbian and gay couples now enjoy the same rights as straights do when it comes to marriage in Vermont.  It ends special privileges granted straight couples but denied to same sex couples.

Perhaps the wisdom of progressive thinking can roll back the right wing forces of darkeness and rule based on hatred and bigotry.

This story from the Denver Post (via the Colorado Independent), requires little commentary:

A man who narrates Christian CDs has been arrested on suspicion of using the Internet to arrange sex with a teenage girl.

Juan Alberto Ovalle, 42, thought he was corresponding with a girl under the age of 15, but instead it was undercover officers with the Jefferson County district attorney’s office, according to court documents.

Ovalle works for a Spanish-speaking arm of the Colorado Springs Christian group Focus on the Family and narrates Biblical text for CDs, according to Internet websites that sell the products.

Ovalle serves the Trans World Radio ministry and also the Spanish broadcasting department of Focus on the Family, according to one of the sites.

“He founded Spanish Christian Audio in 2001 to help Christian organizations with their audio needs,” the site said.

Ovalle was arrested Friday when he drove to Lakewood to meet the young girl, who was actually an undercover officer, to have sex, the DA’s office said in a media release.

On Thursday and Friday, Ovalle made “sexually graphic statements in a chat room to a person he believed to be an underage teen,” according to the DA.

Ovalle asked the teen specific sexual questions and told her about sex acts he would perform with her, according to an arrest affidavit.

According to the affidavit, during one exchange, Ovalle asked: “Would you like to meet?”

The undercover officer told Ovalle that her “mom” was working and she was home alone.

Ovalle is a native of the Dominical Republic, and I just can’t wait for some wing-nut to point to his arrest as yet more proof that immigrants are a menace to our otherwise wholesome society.

TWO police officers who showed no contrition or remorse for telling a man his girlfriend was once a transsexual have been ordered to perform 125 hours of community service.

Garrick Jacobson, 26, was in custody at Sydney’s Surry Hills police station in September 2006, when the officers told him he’d been “rooting a bloke”.

Once released, Jacobson broke into then-girlfriend Brigitte Fell’s unit and assaulted her.
Constables Tyrone Stacey and Brendan Ritson were sentenced in the Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday for disclosing the sensitive information.

The pair had pleaded guilty to accessing Ms Fell’s confidential personal files on the police computer system and unlawfully disclosing the information to their detainee.

Ms Fell told the court she was born a transsexual and had undergone sex reassignment surgery more than 12 years ago.

Jacobson pleaded guilty to assaulting her after being released from the police station.

In his police interview, Jacobson said the information “put him over the edge,” leading him to break into Ms Fell’s unit and attack her, saying “I’m going to smash you”.

Magistrate Glenn Bartley sentenced both officers to 125 hours of community service saying their lack of remorse made the likelihood of their reoffending “unclear”.

“The information disclosed was extremely sensitive … it was disclosed to embarrass and humiliate Mr Jacobson,” Mr Bartley said.

“The result of the disclosure, an angry assault on Ms Fell, was foreseeable. The significant injuries Ms Fell sustained from the assault were forseeable.

“The offenders were trusted law enforcement officers … to this day they have not shown even the slightest contrition or remorse.”

Mr Bartley said that while their careers were in jeopardy, their previously clean criminal records and prior good characters “weighed substantially in their favour”.

But he rejected their lawyer Joe Klarica’s submission that a conviction would be punishment enough for the pair.

“It is time for the offenders to put back into the community what they have taken out of it,” he said.
