Typical Bullshit Transgender Research Project

Anytime I see a “Transgender” Research Survey I realize that it is automatically there to support a foregone conclusion.  Actually they have taken to to getting rid of non-transgender identified transsexuals and post-transsexuals in the first question.

Take the groundbreaking survey on transgender discrimination..

This one by Justin Tanis is just too typical It claims to be :

“Comprehensive National Survey on Transgender Discrimination launched by National Center for Transgender Equality and National Gay and Lesbian Task Force”

It is repleate with this little gem:

“This is an absolutely critical national effort. We urge all transgender and gender non-conforming people to take the survey to help guide us in making better laws and policies that will improve the quality of life for all transgender people. We need everyone’s voice in this, everyone’s participation.” – Mara Keisling, Executive Director, National Center for Transgender Equality”

As I said WBTs who do not identifiy as either transgender or gender variant are not welcome in this so called comprehensive survey.  But of course we are the elitists for not toeing the line and wearing the transgender for life t-shirt.

Now call me masochistic if you will but I actually clicked on this survey, actually I did so in the interests of investigative journalism.

Here’s what I found:

1. Do you consider yourself to be transgender/gender non-conforming in any way?

Yes
No. If no, do NOT continue.

If you click the no box and then try to answer the questions in a manner that would be appropriate for a WBT or woman with a past medical history of transsexualism you will not be able to continue past the first page.

Maybe people should let the following two researchers know they feel hegemonically erased by this approach.

You can ask questions about this research.

Yes, Suzan, I found the same thing a couple of hours ago. I thought about writing them for about 30 seconds. Then I realised that they probably aren’t interested in my experiences anyway. I can’t exactly claim gender non-conforming status as a not-butch-not-femme sort-of-andro dyke (though I thought about clicking yes on those grounds for again, like, 30 seconds). My records were changed several years ago, I’m not out in most parts of my life about my past, my life is overall quite ordinary. As a lesbian I can’t marry, which totally sucks (or would if I had a life partner I’d like to marry, maybe someday), but otherwise, I’m just not vulnerable to the kind of discrimination their project is about. So no, I don’t feel erased by them, hegemonically or otherwise. I’m just not part of that world anymore, and you know what, it feels good.

    Hi Suzy
    The problems are global.

Our little association of people with transsexualism and WBT’s are continuously lobbying politicians and authorities in Sweden.

Last autumn one or our two health authorities published a report of the same type of junk science that you’re referring to. An associate professor had been commissioned to write a 466 pages report on the situation for “transpersons” (the local vernacular version of transgender.

Half was “state-of-the-art” of science. It didn’t include ANY single reference to medical research the last 20 years! Just social constructivist gibberish. If social constructivism were valid as a scientific ontology cancer would be treated by aversion therapy…

The report also included results from a big survey; done by posting it on web sites for homosexuals and transvestites, inviting people to answer it.

Around 10 % “identified” as transsexuals (without giving name or “proof” of being under treatment or being WBT or MBT). On this they based the report!

Of course it wasn’t mentioned in the report that the research of the associate professor, the last ten years had been paid by FPE, the local transvestite organization.

    Susanna

I had the same exact experience with this study. I clicked no and that was the end of it.

It didn’t really bother me. They apparently don’t need me. At this point in my life, I don’t really need them.

OTOH, prior experiences of post op women could be of use in identifying common needs of transitioning people.

  4. Suzan Says:

Diana sez: “OTOH, prior experiences of post op women could be of use in identifying common needs of transitioning people.”

Maybe we need to take care of our own and leave the transgenders to take care of their own.

That was what happened when I co-ran the National Transsexual Counseling Unit in the early 1970s.

People self selected out of what we were doing if they were queens(transgender) and not SRS oriented.

The different groups do have different needs.

I could foresee a time when we controlled the process and cut out the WPATHs and straight psychobabblers.

After all who better to judge than those who have been there and have been through it.

Dr. Laub asked me about a very special friend. He was concerned because she was highly dramatic and flamboyant.

I said, “She’s southern, that is a common sort of behavior among some southern women. I’m a stone Yankee and yet I was culturally hip enough to see this and not see through Dr. Laub’s prism which made him much more at ease with someone like me who came off as a Berkeley liberated young woman.

This is all about who has hegemony over our lives.

The ground that survey breaks is for the NCTE monument to itself.

466 pages! oh my…more padding than a mattress factory uses in a month…

Well that’s twice on one day.
I must be going for a new record or need my contact lens prescription changed.

You have to love it doncha?

I have worked on a committee to design such a servery and found this one to be so heavenly loaded it made the Hite Report look unbiased.

It was taken offline a couple of years ago bue we dod one of these in San Diego it was just as comprehensive as this one but was inclusive to classical transsexuals. (I successfully lobbied for that) Sadly the deployment of the servery was biased and wasn’t distributed to the local therapists for their help, which they would have happely accommodated us in asking their clients if they would take the survey. Shall we say there was considerable gay and tranny bias. It did produce some interesting results, the classical TS were three times more likely to be employed than the TG identified folk, based on the raw data.

What can I say but; what a crock of crud.
