I’m Confused… Why would I hate god, when god does not exist?

I not only do not believe in god but I consider all religions to be pretty much a pile of misogynistic filth that serves zero purpose other than as a tool of the oligarchs in oppressing the poor and all women.

That goes for Buddhism and the Dalai Lama too.  The vaunted wisdom of non-western cultures fuck women over just as much as the desert three.  Jill over at I Blame the Patriarchy demolishes the Buddhism wonderful and Dalai Lama reincarnation of Buddha bullshit in a recent post.  Buddhism sounds familiar

Now we have a Christo-Fascist/Republi-Nazi Rep-Mo Todd Akins refuses to apologize for being a Christo-Fascist

Akin Refuses To Apologize For Accusing Liberals Of Hating God

By Travis Waldron
Jun 27, 2011

A spokesperson for Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO), who last week accused liberals of having a “hatred for God,” refused to apologize for those remarks, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Akin’s communications director, Steve Taylor, told the Post-Dispatch that Akin was commenting on a difference between the two ideas: while conservatives believe rights come from God, liberals think they come from the government. Taylor said Akin was not referring to any individual’s beliefs, only the “defining principles of two political ideologies.”

Then we have the America hating Christo-Nazi, Pat Robertson calling upon magic Jesus and magic invisible sky daddy to destroy America because America is living up to its ideals of equality and justice for all.

Robertson: God Will Destroy America For Marriage Equality

Submitted by Brian Tashman
June 27, 2011

Following a story on New York passing marriage equality, Pat Robertson on The 700 Club warned that God will destroy America just like God destroyed Sodom, saying that “there’s never been a civilization ever in history that has embraced homosexuality and turned away from traditional fidelity, traditional marriage, traditional child-rearing, and has survived.” Robertson previously feared that America was turning into Sodom, and today he claims that “we’re heading that way as a nation” because the marriage equality law in New York will further instigate God’s fatal judgment.

The Trouble Lurking Offshore for Jon (Ship our Jobs to China) Huntsman

Do we really need another Corporate Pig, as president, selling out the hard working American People by off-shoring our jobs thereby destroying the middle class and working class?

Haven’t we learned our lessons yet.

Government can represent the people of this nation or it can represent the rich pigs and the corporate interests.  It cannot represent both.

Time to get back to government by and for the people not for the corporations.

The newly announced Republican candidate’s successful family company has created lots of jobs. Unfortunately for Huntsman, most of them are overseas

By John McCormick
June 23, 2011

Every Presidential candidate has political baggage. Much of Jon Huntsman’s is made in China. It’s not just the two years he spent as Barack Obama’s ambassador in Beijing, which some fellow Republicans are using to question whether he’s sufficiently conservative. As he launches his campaign, Huntsman will likely find himself having to answer a much tougher question from recession-weary voters: Why is the booming family business that made him rich creating thousands of jobs in Asia and the rest of the world instead of the U.S.?

<snip>

Huntsman can make a convincing case that he knows something about putting people to work. One of the world’s largest chemical makers, the company he once helped run employs 12,000 people and had revenues of $9.25 billion in 2010.

That would be a killer applause line, except by the company’s own figures just 2,174 of those employees are in the U.S. The rest work around the world. The company declined to provide country-by-country details, though it did say that Huntsman Corp. has 1,151 workers in China.

“We now employ more people between China and India than we do in North America, which is really quite phenomenal when you consider that about 90 percent of our associates 10 years ago were in North America,” Chief Executive Officer Peter Huntsman, 48, a younger brother of the candidate, told an industry conference this month.

Amanda Marcotte: Anti-Choice Anti-Environmentalism and Wingnut bloggers rally behind a violent call for revolution

RH Reality Check is one of those must read news sources along with Pandagon.

I just finished Amanda Marcotte’s book “Get Opinionated” and highly recommend it.  Her blog was one of the blogs that inspired me to start blogging.  I have a link to her blog in the sidebar and I recommend folks check it out: Pandagon

Anti-choicers have found a new weapon in their mission to drum up more hatred for legal, accessible contraception in larger conservative circles: anti-environmentalism. As Lisa Hymas at Grist reports, global warming activist and former Vice President Al Gore has been really turning up the volume lately when it comes to highlighting the intersection of feminism and environmentalism.  At the Games for Change Festival in New York, Gore spelled out how empowering women to control their own fertility pays off for the environment, because women, given the tools to limit their family size, usually choose to do so.  And this, in turn, helps curtail explosive population growth that’s straining the planet’s resources and contributing to global warming.  It’s a classic win-win situation.  Women get what they want.  Environmentalists get what they want. Families and communities have lower infant mortality rates.  Economic stability becomes easier to achieve.

Cue the anti-choicers, whose main weapon against arguments like this is to pretend that they don’t understand the concept of consent.  In fact, the arguments that they’ve been making against Gore work best if you assume women are mindless wombs whose exterior exists mainly for decorative purposes.  As Hymas reports, the conservatives railing against this are pretending that family size could only be limited through evil, fascist methods, when Gore was of course pointing out that women reliably do it for themselves if they’re empowered to do so.  They get away with this because they’re speaking to an audience that treats women’s consent with contempt.  This is an audience that wants to characterize abortion as “violence against women”, because they want you to believe the presence of blood matters more than the fact that women ask for abortion.  (Of course, they’re self-contradictory even then, because abortion is far less painful and bloody than childbirth, which would make the latter more “violent” if you believe that women don’t have a right to make choices for themselves.)  This is also the audience that’s up in arms about Slutwalk, because the Slutwalkers argues that a short skirt isn’t consent.  In general, conservatives aren’t doing so great on the concept of women and consent.  And so they’re warmed up to hear arguments that conflate a woman voluntarily limiting her family size for her own reasons with a woman being forced to do so against her will.  “Will” implies that women’s minds and hearts matter, and anti-choicers are solely interested in vaginas and uteruses.

Wingnut bloggers rally behind a violent call for revolution

Ugh. I debated writing this post because I really dislike writing about “men’s rights activists”, because their comically large and unjustified egos cause them to crave attention, and I don’t like feeding trolls.  Also, attracting the attention of a group that supports the interests of men who have a tendency to develop unhealthy obsessions with women means being the target of said unhealthy obsession.  But since they’re in a feeding frenzy of sick obsessions and a couple of people concerned about me have contacted me about it, I’m going to quickly post about the latest MRA obsession and how it demonstrates exactly how fucked up the online anti-feminist community really is.

The story begins with a man named Thomas Ball, who committed suicide in the most horrific way, by setting himself on fire in front of a New Hampshire courthouse. He sent a 15-page suicide note/manifesto to the newspaper, and it turns out that he was protesting the enforcement of laws against domestic violence.  Despite the deep wrongness of his cause—I mean, he literally says that men who beat their wives should have full rights to live with the women they abuse and the state shouldn’t be able to keep said men away from their victims—a number of anti-feminist types have declared him a hero and a martyr for their cause.  Ball also characterized himself as a Tea Partier and his act as an act of violent protest against the state, and calls for insurrection and revolt.  This has caused his base of support to expand dramatically, and you’re seeing Glenn Reynolds and his wife supporting this act of violence.  David at Man Boobz covered the response from the “men’s rights” folks, and again the general tenor is support for setting yourself on fire and sending threatening letters calling for more violence, and many of Ball’s supporters suggest even more violence.

Beyond New York, Gay Marriage Faces Hurdles

From The New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/27/nyregion/for-gay-marriage-movement-momentum-but-challenges.html?_r=1&hp

By

ALBANY — After a string of defeats in recent years from California to Maine, the movement to legalize same-sex marriage is hoping its unexpected victory in New York will revive efforts to legalize gay weddings around the nation.

But the movement’s success here could prove difficult to replicate. Twenty-nine states have constitutional bans on same-sex marriage, while 12 others have laws against it. And many of those states where support for same-sex marriage is high have already acted on the issue.

Officials at several gay-rights organizations said they would seek to move quickly in Maryland, where legislation to legalize same-sex marriage was shelved in February by Democratic leaders concerned that it lacked the support to pass.

Advocates also said they hoped to resuscitate a marriage bill that died in the Rhode Island legislature this year.

Gay-rights groups are likely to seek ballot initiatives next year to overturn bans on same-sex marriage in Maine, where the Legislature approved a same-sex marriage law in 2009 that voters almost immediately turned back, and in Oregon.

Advocates hope, in the longer term, to win the legalization of same-sex marriage in Delaware and New Jersey, two states where Democrats control the legislatures, as well as in Pennsylvania.

“The fundamental issue here is American public opinion,” said Fred Sainz, a spokesman for the Human Rights Campaign, a national gay-rights organization. “The outcome in New York will be tremendously impactful in shaping the rest of the debate.”

New York Gay Marriage Vote Alters Political Battle Lines

By GEOFFREY A. FOWLER And CAROL E. LEE
June 27, 2011

New York’s decision to permit same-sex marriages sets the stage for battles in half a dozen other states and could propel gay rights as a political wedge issue in the 2012 elections.

The new battle lines were already being drawn as states such as Minnesota prepared to take on the same-sex marriage issue in the near future and as the New York law put fresh pressure on President Barack Obama to articulate a clearer position on the topic.

Gay-rights advocates, who celebrated Sunday at parades across the country, said New York’s move—a bill permitting same-sex marriage that was championed by Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo and passed by a Republican-led state Senate on Friday—marked a turning point in the nearly 20-year political and legal debate over the definition of marriage. “This is an immense win that brings giant momentum to the movement to end marriage discrimination in the U.S.,” said Evan Wolfson, president of national gay rights group Freedom to Marry.

After the gay-pride parade Sunday in New York, Mr. Cuomo said, “I think you’re going to see this message resonate all across the country now. If New York can do it, it’s OK for every other place to do it.”

Opponents said they would go on the attack against Republicans who support gay marriage. Brian Brown, president of the National Organization for Marriage, said New York’s move was a “disaster for the Republican party,” and that his group planned to spend $2 million over the next 18 months to defeat the legislators who supported it.

Bachmann would back amendment to overturn NY marriage law

By Meghashyam Mali
06/26/11

On Sunday, GOP presidential contender Rep. Michele Bachmann said she would support a federal constitutional amendment which would overturn New York state’s new law legalizing gay marriage and similar laws in other states.

On Fox News Sunday, Rep. Bachmann reiterated calls for an amendment that would define marriage as “between a man and woman.”

Rep. Bachmann claimed that while New York’s new law approving same-sex marriages which was signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Friday was “up to the people of New York”, the debate over defining marriage was “a state issue and a federal issue.” She added that “federal law will trump state law on this issue.”

“States have, under the 10th Amendment, the right to pass any law they like. Also, federal officials at the federal level have the right to also put forth a constitutional amendment”, said Bachmann.

Diabetes epidemic affecting 350m – and western fast food is to blame

From The Guardian UK: http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2011/jun/25/diabetes-epidemic-western-fast-food

• Lancet study shows diabetes now a major health problem
• Number of people with disease has doubled since 1980

guardian.co.uk, Saturday 25 June 2011

More than 350 million people in the world now have diabetes, an international study has revealed. The analysis, published online by the Lancet on Saturday, adds several tens of millions to the previous estimate of the number of diabetics and indicates that the disease has become a major global health problem.

Diabetics have inadequate blood sugar control, a condition that can lead to heart disease and strokes, as well as damage to kidneys, nerves and the retina. About three million deaths a year are attributed to diabetes and associated conditions in which blood sugar levels are disrupted.

The dramatic and disturbing increase is blamed by scientists on the spread of a western-style diet to developing nations, which is causing rising levels of obesity. Researchers also say that increased life expectancy is playing a major role.

Type 2 is the most common type of diabetes, accounting for about 85-95% of cases, and is often tied to obesity. It develops when the body fails to produce enough insulin to break down glucose, inflating blood sugar levels. Type 1 diabetes is a separate auto-immune disorder.

“Diabetes is one of the biggest causes of mortality worldwide, and our study has shown that it is becoming more common almost everywhere. It is set to become the single largest burden on world health care systems,” one of the study’s main authors, Professor Majid Ezzati, of Imperial College London, told the Observer. “Many nations are going to find it very difficult to cope with the consequences.”
