I’m starting to wonder if most of the “Radical feminists” who seem so focused on the evil transsexual and transgender people aren’t really right wing “Christian” men playing at being Lesbians.

First the fictitious Lesbian Syrian Blogger and now someone I used as a source in the past.

‘Paula Brooks,’ editor of ‘Lez Get Real,’ also a man

Just one day after the author behind a popular Syrian lesbian blog admitted to being a married, American man named Tom MacMaster, the editor of the lesbian news site Lez Get Real, with the tag­line “A Gay Girl’s View on the World,” acknowledged that he is also a man.

“Paula Brooks,” editor of Lez Get Real since its founding in 2008, is actually Bill Graber, 58, a retired Ohio military man and construction worker who said he had adopted his wife’s identity online. Graber said she was unaware he had been using her name on his site.

Brooks’s identity came under suspicion after news broke that a woman called Amina Arraf on the blog “A Gay Girl in Damascus” might not really be a Syrian lesbian.

Over the weekend, as journalists, bloggers and fans of Amina hunted for clues to the identity behind the blog, Brooks came under review as a possible suspect. Liz Henry, a Web producer at BlogHer.com, questioned Brooks’s involvement with Amina, as Amina had started to write about the Syrian uprising on Lez Get Real before starting her own blog.

MacMaster came forward Sunday to admit that he was behind the persona of Amina, but questions still remained about Brooks.

Brooks had told reporters at The Washington Post that she could only speak on the phone through her father because she was deaf. She provided a photograph of her license as proof of her identity, which showed a woman named Paula Brooks.

On Monday, we continued to question her identity. We spoke to the man who identified himself as her father, who finally admitted after numerous telephone conversations: “I am Paula Brooks.” That man turned out to be Bill Graber.

Ever since the Great Recession shook the foundations of the U.S. economy, President Obama has been promising recovery. Evidence of this recovery, we were told, was manifested in the massive post-bailout profits corporations made. Soon enough, the President assured us, these corporations would tire of hoarding mountains of cash and start a hiring bonanza, followed by raising wages and benefits. It was either wishful thinking or conscious deception. The recent stock market meltdown has squashed any hope of a corporate-led recovery.

The Democrats fought the recession by the same methods the Republicans used to create it: allowing the super rich to recklessly dominate the economy while giving them massive handouts. This strategy, commonly referred to as Reaganomics or Trickle Down Economics, is now religion to both Democrats and Republicans; never mind the staged in-fighting for the gullible or complicit media.

When it becomes obvious to even the President that the economic recovery never existed beyond the bank accounts of the rich, questions will have to be answered. Why, for example, did nobody in either political party foresee the disastrous consequences of the bailouts? Not only did the U.S. deficit drastically increase but the same U.S. corporations that caused the recession were given reinforcement for their destructive actions, ensuring that it would continue unabated.

In his book, Crisis Economics, Nouriel Roubini outlines the insane response to the recession by Republicans and Democrats. Because both parties simply threw money at the banks and hedge funds instead of punishing them, a condition of “moral hazard” was created, meaning, that banks would assume another bailout would come their way if they destroyed the economy again — too big too fail, remember? Roubini explains how the Democrats allowed the “too big” banks to get even bigger; how Wall Street salaries based on short-term profits went unregulated; how the regulations that were put into place were inadequate and filled with loopholes; how nothing of any significance changed.

I’m an on-line transgender warrior who created an Avatar, a fictional Syrian Lesbian Blogger, because I am a sick freaking pervert with too much male privilege and I don’t know enough about baseball/football to join a fantasy sports league.

Besides pretending to be a Syrian Lesbian gets my dick hard.

I resisted tumbling for the story.

You can only get burned so many times before ya start to smell a rat with some stories.  Particularly when they have this overly dramatic ending.

Blogging about Trans-World and the Transgender Borg Collective has meant meeting many more than a few “fantasy transgender” people.  Between this blog, the Usenet and Mailing Lists I have heard more strangely impossible stories than most people would imagine possible.

When I hear something that doesn’t sound credible, I fact check.  Many of the stories from the avatars of fantasy transgender folks fall apart immediately.  Most often the dates are seriously off or they are claiming other things that just do not work that way.

Often times these people have excuses for inaction.  One of my all time favorites was a “Spazzer” from England who pretended to not only be trans-something or other but developmentally challenged.  He used strange spellings, lived with his mum and was an airplane spotter.

If you showed him any kindness he started asking about your tits and would you send him pictures.  His act fell apart one day when it turned out he had separate accounts for his different hobbies.

This seems to be a male thing.

Sometimes when someone is arguing the importance of the umbrella and how transsexuals must support the umbrella I think: “Why?  You are a heterosexual transvestite typing with one hand playing this fantasy game and fucking with me.”

This is so piggy and misogynistic on so many levels and actually hurts real transgender people as well.  All so some privileged heterosexual middle aged guy  playing some sort of twisted fucking game and he expects me to play along.

I don’t think so…  Not when I would rather go all Valerie Solanis on him.

Life is hard enough for LGBT/T people in places like Syria without some overly privileged middle aged white dick pretending to be a lesbian Syrian Blogger.

Come to think of it maybe some one should invent a fantasy role playing league for the “Straight Transvestites who want to play Transgender or transsexual on-line”

Tracy Morgan is rightly facing a storm of criticism for a number of hostile statements he made against the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community in a recent comedy show in Nashville. Particularly alarming was his statement that, if his son were gay, he would stab him to death with a knife. Obviously we must condemn what Morgan has said, as well as make clear that there must be appropriate consequences for promoting violence against a child for being gay. However, we are mistaken if we think this is just about Tracy Morgan. Tragically, from my vantage point of working with thousands of LGBT youths who have experienced family rejection, Tracy Morgan made a joke out of an everyday reality we face: rejection and hostility towards LGBT youth that is shared by far too many parents in our society.

I firmly believe those of us who care about these kids do have a choice in this moment: do whatever we can to ensure that Tracy Morgan understands the impact of his words, but also, while we have national attention focused on these comments that we put a face on this under-discussed issue and get the public to understand the tragic scope of this problem.

I have heard too many LGBT youths tell horrifying stories of violent abuse and rejection from their parents. The teenage boy from upstate New York, who, when his father learned he was gay, he beat him to a pulp, then threw him out of the house and told him that if he tried to come back, he would kill his son and bury him in the backyard. Or the boy from Florida whose father put a gun to his head and said “You are no longer my son. Leave the house now.” The 17-year-old transgender child whose mother attacked him when she learned of his male identity, ripping out a piece of his scalp, and screaming homophobic abuse as her child fled. Or the 15-year-old boy who came out to his family at a picnic in rural Delaware. His father, a Christian minister, jumped on him and tried to strangle him. That evening he gathered his belongings into a few garbage bags and banished his son from his home. Or the family that drove their daughter out into the backwoods of New Jersey and tossed her from the car for being a lesbian. This is clearly not something to joke about.

Research now documents the terrible scope of this crisis. Approximately 50% of LGBT youth whose sexual orientations and gender identities become known to their families experience some degree of family rejection. A recent report published by the Center for American Progress estimates that there are over 100,000 homeless LGBT youth on the streets of our nation, and that LGBT youth make up to 40% of our nation’s homeless youth population.

Once upon a time Conservatives fought the same battles against marriage equality they are fighting today because racism like homophobia is a pillar of Conservative political philosophy.

There was a time, within my lifetime when it was illegal in many states for interracial couples to marry.

If you’re reading this, then you’ve probably been invited to commemorate or at least think about Loving Day this year. And with good reason. In 1958, newlyweds Mildred Jeter and Richard Loving were indicted on charges of violating Virginia’s ban on interracial marriages and were banished from their home state. The U.S. Supreme Court overturned the law in 1967.

Many multiracial individuals and interracial couples celebrate the anniversary of the Loving v. Virginia decision, June 12, as Loving Day. While celebrating this important civil rights milestone, we should remember that increased visibility of interracial couples and offspring does not promise increased racial harmony. Let’s face facts. It’s very sexy to congratulate ourselves based on reports that today’s interracial families can live harmoniously in the former Confederacy. We’re entertained as we watch Khloe and Lamar’s relationship work out. It makes us feel good to think that we have overcome, that we have reached a state of racial harmony and that we are all finally equal—and becoming equally beige and beautiful.

But a desire to congratulate ourselves doesn’t erase the fact that racial mixing has been occurring in our nation and hemisphere for more than 500 years. Colonists and indigenous people married and engaged in extramarital sexual relations. White indentured servants mixed with African indentured servants and then with African slaves. And there’s a long history of black freedmen and freedwomen intermarrying with Native Americans, as well as white males (often forcibly) having sex with black females. There are the interracial children fathered by U.S. soldiers and born to foreign lovers and “comfort women” in war-torn Asian and Middle Eastern nations. Add this to centuries’ worth of Asian and Hispanic immigration and 40 years’ worth of official interracial marriage patterns and you have what many might call the recipe for a melting pot where race doesn’t matter.

Sadly, this isn’t the case.

As Susan Faludi demonstrated in “Backlash,” attitudes about gender and sexuality tend to be cyclical.  Women’s success in the workplace, especially, has a tendency to create anti-feminist backlashes.  As Faludi documented, the 80s backlash in response to the normalization of professional work for women took shape in demands that women embrace more feminine-submissive behaviors and fashions, the idolizing of housewives as perfect women, and attacks on reproductive rights.

Despite the previous anti-feminist administration, the past couple of decades have been good for women: education levels rose to meet and exceed men’s, women’s leadership became more normalized from Condie Rice to Hillary Clinton, and the public debate over sexual harassment in the 90s was won by feminists (though social disapproval of it remains no more than an inch deep).  Even the existence of the feminist blogosphere can be counted as a major triumph.  The tendency of news magazines to periodically declare feminism “dead” can’t withstand the overwhelming online evidence that feminism is very much alive.

And now we’re in a backlash period, and the focus hasn’t been on fashion or even sending women to the home as much—it’s all about sex, baby. Or more precisely, there’s been an alarming trend towards glamorizing chastity standards that have often been out of fashion for 50 years.  It’s not just the nearly 1,000 bills in state legislatures aimed at punishing and controlling female sexuality by depriving women of access to birth control and abortion, though god knows that would be enough.  As Faludi demonstrated in her history of the 80s, these things tend to spread and morph and infect the discourse and behavior of all sorts of people in all sorts of situations.

One story recently brought home how very terrible the situation is getting when it comes to the policing and punishing of women for their lack of commitment to chastity. Jasmijn Rijcken was visiting New York City from her native Holland, and was pulled over by a New York City police officer and threatened with a ticket for wearing a short skirt on a bicycle.  He called her skirt “distracting,” and only backed off when he learned she didn’t actually live in the city. He used the age-old excuse that women’s bodies are so “distracting” that they must be covered up, as men cannot control themselves when exposed to whatever body part the complainant deems too damn sexy.  At least the cop in this case wasn’t suggesting men would be forced to rape her; he simply claimed that women’s alluring flesh would cause car accidents. It doesn’t matter to me if Ayn Rand is an atheist or not. I still think she is one of shittiest writers I ever tried to read and that her philosophy is very Hitlerian and utterly lacking in any morals or ethics.

In short she was a crappy human being and it is disgusting that she has a following that wish to create a society based on her ideology.

What is far more puzzling is that so many who embrace here philosophy profess to be not only Christian but Born Again Christian (A label I have come to consider meaning “I’m saved therefore screw everyone else.) when Rand was not only an atheist but professed a philosophy that was completely at odds with the professed but seldom practiced tenets of Christianity.

Ayn Rand, novelist and conservative political thinker, has an impassioned following among some of today’s Republicans. They embrace her defense of laissez-faire capitalism and individualism. In many respects, she is the godmother of all libertarians. What some put aside, however, is the inconvenient fact that she was also an outspoken atheist.

A group of left-leaning Christians have decided to make an issue of this disconnect, putting some leading Republicans on the spot about the woman they think of as an intellectual hero.

A new political ad, created by the faith-based advocacy group American Values Network and provocatively titled “Ayn Rand & GOP vs. Jesus,” attempts to drive a wedge into the Republican coalition by drawing attention to Rand’s anti-religious rhetoric. The ad is is directed primarily at Rep. Paul Ryan, the Wisconsin Republican whose budget plan was championed by Republicans and decried as overly austere by Democrats.

And while observers say that efforts to use the admiration that Ryan and others have expressed for Rand to sow discontent in the party’s conservative Christian base will gain little traction, there are some signs that Democratic groups like AVN are not the only religious Christians focusing on Rand.
