According to Reuters, a press conference in Washington D.C. today at 1:30 pm EDT will announce the formation of the Freedom Federation.

The Freedom Federation is a new and unique federation of some of the largest multi-ethnic and transgenerational faith-based organizations in the country committed to plan, strategize, and work together on common interests within the Judeo-Christian tradition to mobilize their grassroots constituencies and to communicate faith and values to the Religious, social, cultural, and policymaking institutions.

The organizations list some of the usual suspects in such an effort, including some of the most shrill in the anti-gay realm, along with a few with which we are not familiar.

Kansas city woman assaulted at Omaha pride

http://www.365gay.com/news/kansas-city-woman-assaulted-at-omaha-pride/

By 365gay Newswire

(Omaha) A Kansas City woman was assaulted during Omaha’s Pride Parade earlier in the month reports the Pitch. Kendra Konrady was placed in a headlock by 66-year-old Omaha resident William Crilly after she threw Human Rights Campaign stickers at the man’s float.

Konrady had travelled to Omaha as a volunteer for the Human Rights Campaign. She had been walking along the parade route passing out stickers when she saw Crilly’s float. The man had a rainbow colored wagon with a banner on it saying “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ Our Lord.”

Konrady was attacked after she threw several stickers with the HRC emblematic equal sign on them into Crilly’s float.

“He had me in a head lock and I was kind of flailing,” she said. “I’m a pacifist through and through, but this dude just attacked me.”

Crilly was arrested for assault following the incident. As news spread of the event, parade goers flocked to the HRC’s booth, which signed up 159 new members following Konrady’s attack.

Queens D.A. won’t investigate transgender attack as a hate crime

This was on Feministing this morning.  I put it up because it has some links New Yorkers should click on and follow.
It is time to pass some anti-hate crimes laws and to pressure the police and courts to act on these laws.
Also if you don’t visit Feministing you should Jessica Valenti and the others who blog there including occasionally Julia Serano have one hell of a great Blog.  There is a link in the sidebar of this blog to help y’all get there.

On June 19 — that’s right, during Pride Month — Leslie Moya (pictured above), a transgender woman from Queens, was walking home from a nightclub when two men assaulted her and brutally beat her with a belt buckle.

They stopped only when a passing motorist threatened to call the police. Throughout the attack, Leslie’s assailants called her a “faggot” in Spanish. The attack left Leslie with multiple injuries, including bruises all over her body, and stitches in her scalp. Police called to the scene found Leslie nearly naked and bleeding on the sidewalk. They also recovered a belt buckle from the assailants that was covered in blood.

Despite the fact that Mora was clearly targeted for her (perceived) sexual orientation, the Queens District Attorney is refusing to investigate (PDF) the attack as a hate crime.

If you’re a New York State resident, now’s a good time to pressure the state Senate to pass the pending transgender hate-crimes legislation, the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act (GENDA). (It has passed the Assembly and is awaiting Senate action.)

Click here for a list of states with trans-inclusive hate crimes laws. And also check out an alternate view on hate-crimes laws, from the Sylvia Rivera Law Project.
