Virginity Movement on the Defensive, Scrambling to Rebrand

Keith Deltano has a high school student tied up onstage and is precariously dangling a cinder block over the young man’s genital region. Deltano is not a school bully or an escaped lunatic. He’s an abstinence proponent, a comedian who uses this brick trick to demonstrate the ineffectiveness of condoms (although the actual lesson learned may be to steer clear of comics brandishing bricks).

Under the Bush administration, stories like this were commonplace. There was the Virginia Beach teacher who told her ninth graders they could be arrested for having premarital sex. And the abstinence teacher who explained to the young women in his class that women are like wrapped lollipops, and that after having sex they’re nothing more than “poorly wrapped, saliva-fouled suckers.”

This would be comical if not for the fact that these people have been teaching — or not teaching, more accurately — young Americans about sex. And then there are the assorted ridiculous sex-scare policy decisions — like the FDA holding up over-the-counter status for emergency contraception out of fear that it would make young women promiscuous or even lead to teens forming “sex-based cults.”

Make-over Camp’: good for girls

[This fits in with what I've been talking about when I use the term "gender panic" and the idea of enforced indoctrination of heteronormative behavior instead of the environmental socialization that individuals pick up according to their own sense of self.

It also goes along with a lot of the religious misogyny that is particularly anti-feminist, the Purity Balls and Cult of Abstinence/Virginity.]

A controversial new summer camp teaches girls ages 10 to 14 how to develop their “presence.” The definition of “presence” appears to involve fashion, makeup, hostess skills, table setting, and flower arranging.

The founders of “Make-over Camp”
<http://www2.macleans.ca/2009/06/16/it%E2%80%99s-%E2%80%98wife-camp%E2%80%99-for-10-year-olds/>
in Montreal, presented on the Maclean’s magazine Web site, claim that young girls need these skills, but sociologist Marc Lafrance has called the camp a “Wife Camp,” and parents are divided on whether or not such a camp is valuable or detrimental for girls.

Bethany Sanders of ParentDish <http://tinyurl.com/n3dtou> says, “While I think a camp like this sends the wrong message to girls in general, I suspect there are girls out there who might be interested in it. It’s like princess dresses. Moms worry when their little girls want to wear princess dresses — day in and day out — that they aren’t getting enough exposure to gender neutral activities. But some little girls just want to be princesses, no matter how many trucks you stuff in their toy box.”

Camp founders say that they have tried to solicit interest from boys, but so far, none have come forward. It is likely that there are some boys out there who might be interested, but in societies with strict gender roles in place, a boy of that age group would open himself up to more than just taunts and teasing if he expressed an interest in some type of “make-over camp.”

And while some girls will inevitably want to attend such a camp, it can present dangers. Parents of transgendered or gender-diverse girls might send their daughter to such a camp in the hope of “changing” or “correcting” her, rather than letting her express her true gender identity. For a girl with gender identity issues or a strong male gender identity, such a camp could cause enormous emotional trauma.

In the award-winning book The Last Time I Wore a Dress, author Daphne Scholinski writes about her involuntary hospitalization for gender identity issues and how she was forced to wear makeup and female clothing in attempt to rid her of her male gender identity.

Now Dylan, Scholinski lives in Denver, where he creates, exhibits, and sells his art and works on his Sent(a)mental Project: A Memorial to GLBTIQA Suicides <http://sentamentalstudios.weebly.com/sam-project.html> , “a collection of creative works about, by, or for individuals or groups affected by suicide.” (GLBTIQA — gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersexed, queer, questioning, allies)

While a two-week summer camp is hardly comparable to years in a hospital setting, for a little girl with gender issues, it might seem frighteningly similar.

37 Years

I remember when someone reminds me that yesterday was the first day of summer.

I guess the Greatful Dead song sums it up, “What a long strange trip it’s been.”

I’ve certainly had a far more interesting life and been places, done things, met people I never would have met because being born with transsexualism assured that I would leave the small towns of Northern New York for places  like California.

Curse or blessing, being born with transsexualism has made life existentially interesting.

Maybe I would have done the same things and have found myself in the same movements, many boomers did, but from Greenwich Village to the Haight/Berkeley and Hollywood it sure has been one hell of a ride.

Time post-SRS definitely makes a difference in the process of becoming.

Setting new goals beyond SRS is the most important advice I can offer.

Twenty hallmarks of fake trans personae

I too was taken in by the postings regarding this fraud.  Perhaps I was reacting to chastisement by Trans Griot issues a couple of weeks prior for our having missed a murder of an African American sister.  Perhaps because I felt guilty of ignoring some of the literally once a week reports of brutal murders of transsexual or transgender people that occur so often.

Or perhaps it was the utter brutality

But I too fell for the story and put up a report of this faked  incident.

I pulled it less than 24 hours later after initially putting it up

The following is by Andrea James republished here with permission

Twenty hallmarks of fake trans personae

By Andrea James

Excerpted from “Twenty hallmarks of fake trans personae”
http://www.tsroadmap.com/early/online-hoaxes.html

In June 2009, a “transkid” murder hoax perpetrated by“KuryousKyooty” aka “Rachel” aka “Roo” aka “Raychel Edeyn Wilson” was greatly exacerbated after being spread by a number of normally credible people who didn’t bother to confirm any basic facts independently:

* Laura Amato at Laura’s Playground
* Zoe Brain at A.E. Brain
* James/JayTee on YouTube
* Cindi Knox at Pam’s House Blend
* Tobi Hill-Meyer at Bilerico
* Anonymous poster at SoCal Voice
* Vanessa Edwards Foster at Trans Political

Repeating these rumors without any independent verification is the height of irresponsibility for citizen journalists. These kinds of hoaxes do incredible damage to the community at large and to the credibility of the people who post them without any independent verification. These hoaxes and unconfirmed reports cheapen the real
violence our community faces, and they make people less likely to take us seriously in the future.

I have been exposing fake “transkids” for about ten years, and this latest hoax had all the hallmarks of fakery. It is a classic case of something that has been happening on the internet for decades and has had an official name since 2000: Münchausen by Internet.

Some people seek attention by feigning illness or injury, happening either to themselves or to others. Unfortunately, what psychologists call “factitious disorders” and “malingering” are not uncommon among trans people. A lot of trans people take the sick role as a form of identity. Identifying as disordered or diseased is much
more common among people who embrace professional and populist disease models like “gender identity disorder” or “Harry Benjamin Syndrome.” It’s part of a culture of victimhood that unfortunately lends itself to fakery and hoaxes.

If you have a forum or blog, you have a responsibility to the community to avoid spreading misinformation and lies. To help avoid these problems in the future, I have compiled twenty key hallmarks of fake trans narratives/personae.

The key points in the section:

*Hoaxers seek to establish their credibility at the expense of your credibility.

*Hoaxers avoid any details that can be independently confirmed.

*Hoaxers will prey on your respect for their privacy.

*Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

*Trust, but verify.

*An ounce of prevention is always best.

NOW Activists Elect New President Terry O’Neill to Succeed Kim Gandy

Feminist Leadership NOW Team to Usher in a New NOW

ALBANY, NY (06/21/2009)– This weekend members of the National Organization for Women (NOW) cast their votes for a new team of leaders to direct the largest grassroots feminist organization in the country over the next four years. NOW delegates elected Terry O’Neill, who served as the group’s membership vice president from 2001 to 2005, to succeed President Kim Gandy.

Gandy will retire from her office on July 20 due to the organization’s term limits; she has been a leader in NOW for 36 years, with 22 years of service at the national level, including the last eight as president.

“NOW is the organization that fights for the rights of all women no matter the circumstances of their birth, their race or sexual orientation, no matter if they live in poverty or are trying to escape violence,” said NOW President-Elect Terry O’Neill. “My experience with domestic violence, as an abused wife left me humiliated and embarrassed. I only began to talk about this publically five years ago as I realized that to keep quiet was to continue the abuse. I want to empower women and telling my story does just that. Women are fed up with persistent inequality and are ready for change. I am honored and eager to lead NOW in making that change.”

O’Neill cut her political teeth working to defeat David Duke’s gubernatorial campaign in Louisiana. She went on to serve NOW at the local, state and national levels. As an attorney, she served a clerkship at the U.S. Court of Appeals in Chicago before practicing law in New Orleans. She taught at the University of California Davis Law School and Tulane Law School. Currently, she is chief of staff to a Montgomery County (Md.) councilmember whose successes include a transgender equality law and Maryland’s first Family Justice Center for survivors of domestic violence. O’Neill’s national positions also include executive director of the National Council of Women’s Organizations.

The other members of O’Neill’s team are Bonnie Grabenhofer of IL, taking on the position of executive vice president; Erin Matson of MN, serving as action vice president; and Allendra Letsome of MD, incoming membership vice president.

75 Percent of Americans Want National Health Insurance

The American People need a party that represents them and not the fucking corporations and the rich.  As it is the Corporations have two parties representing their interests.  The ultra far right wing Republicans and the merely right wing Democrats.

I have had company provided health insurance for only a tiny fraction of my life.  Many sisters are in this situation.  Many women as well as minorities find this to be the situation.

The American Health Care System is one of the Worst in the industrialized world on virtually every single stage from life expectancy to infant mortality.  We pay more for less than any other nation in the world.  All so the fucking rich can screw us and enslave us.

Further I do not want  mandated purchase of “free market” private insurance.  That is government sanctioned robbery by a crime syndicate made up of the corporations and their lackey government.  I am tired of Senators and Congress people who are minions for the rich and lie to the poor.

Furthewr this National Health Insurance should cover Birth Control, Abortion and SRS.

Senate Dems, GOPers agree: Not enough votes for health reform

It’s doubtful that President Barack Obama can garner enough votes to pass sweeping health care reform through Congress, a leading Senate Democrat says — this despite a new poll that shows nearly three-quarters of Americans would support some form of government-run health care program.

Gidget

In the late 1950s I was a miserable little 11-12 year old transkid stuck up in the snow belt of far northern New York.

I skied and skated.  I played hockey since even thinking about figure skating would have gotten me pounded to a pulp and ridiculed.

In the summer I loved to swim.

If I had been a WBF instead of a WBT I would have been a tomboy.  Not really a baby butch but more like the little girls of today who play soccer and softball.

I wasn’t the little princess type, neither the WBF nor the WBT sort.

In 1959 the movie  “Gidget” came out.  I also bought the paperback.  I was blown away.

I had a role model.  A girl who was the kind of girl I wanted to be.  You see in the late 1950s girls didn’t surf.  Girls sat on the beach, sun bathed and looked pretty for the boys who did things like surfing.

Gidget wanted to surf too.  She bought a board, a long board  (In the 1950s boards were 8-10 feet long and were heavy) and got the guys to teach her how to surf.  She had to face sexism and the idea that, “Girls don’t surf.”

But she learned.  There were several other novels and a bunch of movies and I went to all of them even though I was teased for liking “girl movies”.

Gidget was a real person and the fictionalized stories about her exploits as a teenage girl surfer in 1950s Southern California were true.

The original Gidget was created by Frederick Kohner in his 1957 novel Gidget, The Little Girl With Big Ideas. The story was based on his daughter Kathy.

Now if the story ended there Gidget could have slipped into the recesses of books and movies read during childhood the way Pippi Longstocking and Nancy Drew did.

But Gidget was a role model for my pre-feminist socialization.

Other movies followed morality tales like Parrish and Where the Boys Are where girls make the mistake of saying yes and are hit with the punishment of pregnancy.  While those tied in with my mother warning me about boys and the dangers I would face of beatings and even murder not to mention local disgrace were I to succumb to any feelings I probably had.

Yet Gidget remained.

Many years later when I was some 30 years past coming out I read an article about the real Gidget in the LA Times.  Her name is Kathy Kohner Zuckerman.

The following is an excerpt from Surf Culture The Art History of Surfing

But in the hallway, I saw a large black-and-white photo of a striking teenage girl on the beach with her surfboard, wearing the innocent smile and modest swimsuit of the 1950s. “This is me,” Gidget said proudly. She looked as happy as she did that day on the beach, a far different Gidget than the woman to whom I had been introduced on the Columbia lot. “That’s the picture Life magazine used.”

I recognized the photo, although I could not remember exactly where and when I had seen it before. It was one of those images that summed up a world so perfectly, there was nothing left to say. The Gidget in the photo is the Gidget that launched a thousand boards, and the one who now guided me into her once-and-future past. We headed out to the patio, and Gidget talked about how it all started.

“We were living in Brentwood,” she said. “My mother used to drive some of the neighborhood guys down to the beach. They would put their boards in her Model-T. I tagged along. I wanted to surf — it looked like so much fun. I pestered everybody for lessons. I remember asking a surfer named Scooter if I was bothering him. He said, ‘You’re breathing, aren’t you?’ There was this guy named Tubesteak living in a shack. A few other surfers were always hanging around. They were always hungry. I think some of them lived there, too.”

Just as the Stations of the Cross are key points along the way to a defining religious moment, the shack Gidget referred to — although long gone — is a sacred site, along with its revered twin, The Pit. Its very mention among surfers, especially those who surfed Malibu in the ’50s, conjures a mythology that forever binds the wave-riding tribe. On her pilgrimages to the beach, Gidget would bring a picnic basket filled with homemade sandwiches and trade them for use of Tubesteak’s surfboard. Soon, she bought her own board for thirty-five dollars from a well-known shaper named Mike Doyle. “I wish I still had it,” she said. “It was blue and had a totem pole on it. Today it would be worth a small fortune.”

In a very real way Gidget made my life as a transkid bearable at a time when I thought I was the only person like me in the world.  She embodied everything I wanted to be as an innocent 11-12 year old transkid who would soon be caught by my parents and labeled as a teenage drag queen.

But more than that she taught me that just because you are a girl doesn’t mean you can’t surf or do anything else you dedicate yourself to doing.

That made her really special among 1950s girl heroes.

Socialization

A semantic construct that cultural feminists have all too often used as a club with which to beat us.

On the face of it socialization is a pretty simple concept and is an educated way of describing the process of teaching, in this case sex roles/gender roles.

However, among the things I have learned from post-modern folks are ideas like deconstructing and sub-textual readings.

Socialization as a concept requires more than a simple face value reading for it is fraught with both sub-textual readings and religio-political ideological purposes depending on its contextual usage

I wrote about socialization in a previous post “Green Blankets”

One of the more unfortunate aspects of the term socialization is that way too many people who throw it about like a hand grenade or who get all defensive about it being used as a weapon are rather clueless regarding the multi-layered/multi-textualizations by which the term can be read.

The above is academic way of saying many people do not have the vaguest idea what they are talking about.

Transkids are a special case and as such, we fracture rules.  Especially rules laid out by those enraptured with the idea that socialization is everything and nature is nothing.  I want to call that the John Money school, yet having read his books I doubt he was that firmly in the nurture camp.

Then there are what we have come to call the essentialists.  Jane Alpert and her “Mother Right” are of this camp.  So are all the patriarchal misogynistic desert religions.  Biology is destiny and women are other meaning lesser.  If most patriarchal religions are to be believed women are intrinsically evil and are the cause of rape, war and all the other evils to befall humanity.  Pandora opened the box, Eve tempted and all that.

It is easy to see why people who change their “god given” bodies would be seen as problematic in this context. Especially when altering what many consider an ascribed characteristic i.e. sex that endows the positions of superior and other (the premise of Simone de Beauvoir’s   The Second Sex).  Why would one willingly give up membership in a group that bestows privilege on “all” its members albeit upon some with a far greater degree and upon others to a far lesser degree often based upon the ephemeral quality described as manliness?

Now all things considered it is fairly easy to see why a movement dedicated to women’s equality would be less than enchanted by “essentialism”.  Since essentialism decrees an innate and immutable nature to man and woman. In turn that connotes a naturalness to male supremacy and locks women into the position of other or lesser in much the same way racism and the idea of white supremacy means that people of color are inferior and deserving of perpetually being handed  the shitty end of the stick.

Which brings us back to socialization.  The idea of sex role difference being taught. I believe much of what are more accurately called gender roles are the result of socialization.

That statement says less than it appears to say when it comes to answering some even more primal questions of why one child gravitates to one set of gender role behavior and the other to a different set.

The easy answer is indoctrination from the point of birth.  So why are there transsexual and transgender people?

Ahhh there go those f**king transsexual and transgender people phucking up my goddamn Ph.D thesis that I wasted six years of my life on.  Took on a life time of indebtedness and several lifetimes worth of ass kissing to get only so I could be part of an army of people applying for the two positions in the world open to some one with a Ph. D. in this subject.

Or.. I have this wonderful 750 page book with 120 of those pages being references that has sold in the many thousands and could become a required text book. If you think I’m going to let these phucking transsexuals screw it up for me as well as making me look like a moron by totally blowing off my wonderful theory about socialization being the key to gender role development you’ve got another think coming.

The point is many of the people at the top have a vested interest in supporting their theories and trashing anyone who messes up their theories.

We are Cybele’s Knife in cutting through bullshit theories when it comes to why of a fair degree of sex role development if not gender role development.

Two or three things I know about us.

We don’t enter the world tabula rasa (blank slate).  We start influencing the sort of early socialization right from day one…

My mother described me as being a very different infant than my brother, smiling and vocalizing early.  Wanting to be held and cuddled.  I was sick as an infant and my mother let me have the dolls and toys I wanted.

Not that uncommon.  Nor is the sudden freak out at 4 or 5 and the taking away those “girl’s toys”  FYI  I could have thought this an imagined memory except I found the toys in a box in my grandmother’s attic when I was doing some work there as a teenager.

Transkids get their socialization the way everyone else does with a twist.  Parents and peers punish us for socializing as a member of the sex that is at the heart of our core “sex identity” (That sense of self that says I am female or I am male).

I work retail.  I see how families, particularly those in “Christian” patriarchal religions are in full blown gender panic with fear their children might grow up gay or lesbian or heavens forbid transsexual.

Nothing sissy about my toddler in camouflage or tomboy about my six year old daughter in Bratz skank clothes.  No sex education for these kids either only abstinence  training and virgin rings.

We live in a world divided along homosocial lines where homophobia is the rule.  Non-sexual relationships, friendships between men and women that reach the level of non-sexual same sex friendships are rare.

When they happen, the bonds are often shared interests.  On the other hand, I have girl friends with who I don’t have all that many common interests.

Socialization might best be looked upon by breaking it into components.  But even this requires us to think in an imaginary binary of black and white instead of a tonal scale of near infinite shadings.

One of the strong points of Dr. Benjamin was that he saw maleness and femaleness as clusters with variations rather than black/white.  The same can be said for gender.

Gender is kind of like being a member of a team with certain rules.  The term socialization hints at the idea that these rules might not be actively taught but rather be taught by society indirectly.

Now the indirect teaching/learning process passes the Cybele’s Knife test as both transkids and normborns could learn the team rules for the sex/gender of their core identity.

The direct indoctrination process doesn’t work as well unless  you cheat a bit on the thinking and say, “The reason transkids have this gender/sex identity different is because mommy screwed up.

But Cybele’s Knife looks at what parents did to break their transkids of being trans.  Serious psychiatric abuse in some cases and yet even electroshock and lobotomy often cannot kill that core identity.

Further transkids learn enough from the world they grow up in to often adapt so completely to the gender role they were ostensibly not socialized to as to completely assimilate as members of the sex to which they are surgically reassigned.

Indeed if one actually reads Raymond her worst venom is not directed at those who inadequately present in a stereotypically exaggerated manner but rather at those who are indistinguishable in thought and appearance from women identified feminist women.

So perhaps “socialization” is far more complex a process than the glib usage as tossed off insult. Perhaps it is one of those layered and nuanced processes filled with sub-texts and like complex computer programs with sub-routines entered when certain if/and goto conditions occur.

Further…  When does the process of socialization end?  Does it occur only during a finite period?  Or is it something that can occur as one adapts to new and different conditions as in the case of the immigrant who comes to a new land with different language and customs and adapts to that new culture.

Let us look at socialization and something more common than transsexuality or transgenderism.  If socialization were the only element then gay and lesbian people would not be between 5 and 10% of the population as children are socialized to be heteronormative with many parents taking the same sort of harsh measures they use towards transkids when they think their child may be growing up to be gay or lesbian.

With gay or lesbian kids it is even harder to cite the broad cultural exposure to the other culture that transkids can cite.  It is a heteronormative world.  More so 40 years ago before Stonewall and less so today although parents often scream bloody murder over the idea that their child might see Heather has two Mommies or And Tango Makes Three as though simple exposure to illustrations of gay or lesbian characters would undo all that socialization.

That would lead me to think perhaps people aren’t all that secure regarding the idea that gender role/sex role or gay/lesbian is purely the product of socialization.

These are only a few observations on socialization.  I think it is important that the idea that it might be inter-active and open–ended offer topics for dialogue with those in the lesbian feminist community who use “socialization” as a club.

How deep Was the Prince Influence

Having read so much material over the years I have been aware of the deeply poisonous influence of the late and unlamented (at least by me) transgener formely known as “Prince”.

Yet here I was looking for some pertinent material for a follow up piece to “Psychology Constructs the Female” when what should I come upon but this nugget of poison.

In the Bible according to St. Harry Benjamin:

Charles Prince, whom we will meet again in a later chapter, formed a theory as to the psychological inception of all three deviations. It concerns the child’s identification with the wrong parent, particularly the boy with his mother or with another female. He says:

Those impressed with the sexual women are likely to express their femininity in sexual behavior and become homosexual; those fixed on the psychological aspect maintain that they are women in a male body and that they feel as women. They seek emasculatory surgery to bring the body in conformity with the psyche. They are the transsexuals. Finally, those who were set on the social aspects of women seek to emulate her in expressing their femininity, which means their clothing, adomment, hair-do, mannerisms, etc. This type becomes a transvestite.[15]

This is turning into the tracing back of an infection.  Munge this through a few iterations and you have Bailey/Blanchard et. al. AP/AGP

Psychology Constructs the Female

If you haven’t figured it out already, or if you are new to visiting this list I should probably say this before plunging into the following.  I’m a Second Wave radical feminist of the pre-cultural feminist type.  What I am talking about in the following has little or nothing to do with the post-modern deconstructiionalist arguments so popular today and has everything to do with thinking from when feminism was about liberation and not a Ph.D. program in Women’s Studies or the more current “Gender Studies”

I’ve been accused of being an essentialist for my reducing, stripping bare of social role considerations the terms man and woman/boy and girl.  For me a man is an adult male human being and a woman is an adult female human being.  Boy and girl are the child male and female human being.

I came out in 1969.  Because of the time frame and because I was politically radical this meant that transition was as much about consciousness raising and learning feminism as it was about learning femininity in order to assimilate into the expected adult female social roles which we called sex roles as gender had not risen to the hegemonic position it occupies today.

This meant reading all the feminist works of the era.  Including some that had more than a small degree of criticism of transsexuality.

I was very taken with Simone de Beauvoir and her book “The Second Sex” where she lays out the systematic construction of misogyny and the structures that support it.

How women are turned into other and stripped of a common shared humaness in the process.  Lucy Parsons observed, “We are the slaves of slaves. We are exploited more ruthlessly than men.” which is another way of saying “Woman is the nigger of the world.”

Setting of women as apart from men with men being seen as normal and women as abnormal lalows women to be reduced to property never even possessing their own last name and robbed of the connection with the mother.

Religion, especially the desert three but basically all religions set man as good and godlike even proclaiming the heavenly father, god the father etc.  They set woman as evil.  If men rape it is because like Eve women tempt him to do so.

If men murder their wives, or betray them with another woman, abuse them, debase them or desert them it is the woman’s fault.  she drove him to it.  Even when he is a right wing closet fag hitting on a cop in an airport restroom.

I took the title for this piece from a very popular feminist work from 1968 by Naomi Weisstein that apeared in numerous feminist anthologies and which I have tracked down on line.

http://www.cwluherstory.org/psychology-constructs-the-female.html

It is an implicit assumption that the area of psychology which concerns itself with personality has the onerous but necessary task of describing the limits of human possibility. Thus when we are about to consider the liberation of women, we naturally look to psychology to tell us what “true” liberation would mean: what would give women the freedom to fulfill their own intrinsic natures. Psychologists have set about describing the true natures of women with a certainty and a sense of their own infallibility rarely found in the secular world. Bruno Bettelheim, of the University of Chicago, tells us (1965) that “we must start with the realization that, as much as women want to be good scientists or engineers, they want first and foremost to be womanly companions of men and to be mothers.’ Erik Erikson of Harvard University (1964), upon noting that young women often ask whether they can “have an identity before they know whom they will marry, and for whom they will make a home”, explains somewhat elegiacaly that “much of a young woman’s identity is already defined in her kind of attractiveness and in the selectivity of her search for the man (or men) by whom she wishes to be sought…” Mature womanly fulfillment, for Erikson, rests on the fact that a woman’s “somatic design harbors an ‘inner space’ destined to bear the offspring of chosen men, and with it, a biological, psychological and ethical commitment to take care of human infancy.” Some psychiatrists even see the acceptance of woman’s role by women as a solution to societal problems. “Woman is nurturance…,” writes Joseph Rheingold (1964), a psychiatrist at Harvard Medical School, “anatomy decrees the life of a woman… when women grow up without dread of their biological functions and without subversion by feminist doctrine, and therefore enter upon motherhood with a sense of fulfillment and altruistic sentiment, we shall attain the goal of a good life and a secure world in which to live it.” (p. 714)

The entire article is well worth the read and will give insight into how those same psychiatrists pathologize WBTs.  For that is what they do.  If men are the standard by which others are judged and women who want the same rights and privileges that are shared by all men as a result of male privilege are deemed to be maladjusted then imagine how these same insecure men judge people with transsexualism who are female identified and willing to give up some if not all of that assumed male privilege.

This is not something male identified men are willing to do since it means surrendering humanity which by the very construct of the term “mankind” is assumed to be male.  In terms of their point of view (but not necessarily ours) this means going from being human to being other.

Valerie Solanis may have been driven totally crazy by life in an absolutely misogynistic society but her work Scum Manifesto stands as a classic full with pithy if often uncomfortable truths. http://blog.iblamethepatriarchy.com/extra-credit/scum-manifesto/

The affect of fatherhood on males, specifically, is to make them `Men’, that is, highly defensive of all impulses to passivity, faggotry, and of desires to be female. Every boy wants to imitate his mother, be her, fuse with her, but Daddy forbids this; he is the mother; he gets to fuse with her. So he tells the boy, sometimes directly, sometimes indirectly, to not be a sissy, to act like a `Man’. The boy, scared shitless of and `respecting’ his father, complies, and becomes just like Daddy, that model of `Man’-hood, the all-American ideal — the well-behaved heterosexual dullard.

The effect of fatherhood on females is to make them male — dependent, passive, domestic, animalistic, insecure, approval and security seekers, cowardly, humble, `respectful’ of authorities and men, closed, not fully responsive, half-dead, trivial, dull, conventional, flattened-out and thoroughly contemptible. Daddy’s Girl, always tense and fearful, uncool, unanalytical, lacking objectivity, appraises Daddy, and thereafter, other men, against a background of fear (`respect’) and is not only unable to see the empty shell behind the facade, but accepts the male definition of himself as superior, as a female, and of herself, as inferior, as a male, which, thanks to Daddy, she really is.

Solanas makes an observation that more clearly sums up the fiction written by Bailey and Blanchard than almost any argument I’ve seen.  “To be sure he’s a `Man’, the male must see to it that the female be clearly a `Woman’, the opposite of a `Man’, that is, the female must act like a faggot.”

Let us assume, and I point out this is not a longshot assumption that Bailey is a fag.  Not an out and proud gay man but a weaselly insecure little closet case fag.  Actually I think his book The Man who would be Queen is somewhat autobiographical and he is projecting his own desires and forbidden fantasies on to others but is his idea of androphilic transsexuals not a matter of thinking women are really faggots?

That is to say dick crazy, mindless fembots more concerned with the trivial matters of queenish femininity than actually being 21st century actual women.  And from there are his AGP transsexuals not in s0me ways maligned for having meaningful careers in something other than the ghettos of sex work and the pink collar world?

When one strips away the anecdotal based unsubstantiated lies and phony studies that make up Bailey and Blanchards work at the core of their work are the same assumptions attacked by de Beauvoir and Weisstein and the name for those assumptions is misogyny.

Misogyny the pathology that should be considered the father of all pathologies and the one never treated as such.

I do not use the term “classic transsexual”.  Nor do I use HBS. I, in fact abhor the term (classic transsexual) as it makes me think of the writings of Benjamin and other early theorizers who wrote so glowingly of what “perfect women” we made and how we married and adopted children etc.  In short they saw in us the perfect creation of their male imagined woman.

Julia Serano uses the term “sexualize” I perfer the term exociticized with the same connotations one find projected upon at various times Asian women, Latina, European women.  The idea that we really know how to please a man and are willing, pliant sub-human fembots unlike those nasty feminist educated women.

Here in lies some of the reality behind part of what Janice Raymond was saying for the doctors did put forth that we were the ideal women as far as so many men were concerned.

Most of these doctors were living in a world of their projected male fantasies.

Those of us who got our SRS in the early days often found our seeking of legitimacy subverted by the denial of paper work vital to our assimilation or treatment by the law that ghettoized our lives.

Often times it was easier to live in less hostile spaces only to be condemned by those lucky few who managed to slip into the feminine mystique.

Some of our critics have pointed to the high rate of lesbianism as a sign of pathology.  They claim “classic transsexual” or most young emergers like men.

I work retail.  I see the pushing on girls barely out of infancy the mandatory heteronormativity.  The breaking of their common humanity into femininity.  In part feminists are right and WBTs do miss out on that socialization from the cradle and as a result we are less indoctrinated towards compulsory heterosexuality.  As Tina puts it, “How are we supposed to love men when males have been the authors of so much abuse that we endured growing up.”

One of the Beats, either Corso or Ferlinghetti was asked why there were so few women in the Beat Movement and he pointed out that women’s parent could have them committed to insane asylums even as adults for their non-conformist behavior and there they could be subjected to electro shock treatment and even lobotomy.

These misogynistic psychiatrists consider us mentally ill for breaking their insane misogynistic rules.

It becomes a catch 22 for us as they have declared our sanity suspect and we are forced to prove it to not be suspect when they get to make the rules that determine our sanity.

And they are a bunch of misogynistic lunatics.

Anti-bullying bill in jeopardy

Passed in committee, Right-wing attempts picking off supporters before floor vote

by Matt Comer | June 17th, 2009

A bill that would protect North Carolina students from harassment and bullying on the basis of sexual orientation and gender-identity passed a key House committee on Tuesday, June 16, as right-wing and anti-gay Christian fundamentalist organizations attempted to stop the bill.

Sponsored by Sen. Julia Boseman (D-New Hanover) the bill had already cleared the Senate before passing 9-5 in the House Judiciary Committee. The bill could come up for a vote as early as Thursday or as late as next week.

Equality North Carolina executive director Ian Palmquist told Q-Notes late Wednesday afternoon that they are doing everything they can to get the bill passed.

“The vote count is extremely tight and the right-wing is working really heavily to peel off any vote they can,” he said. “Any moderate Republican or Democrat is a target.”

In last year’s session, the House passed an inclusive version of the School Violence Prevention Act once before it headed to the Senate and twice when it again approved the same version after a conference committee ironed out disagreements with a differing Senate version. The fight this year is proving to be more difficult.

“The House did pass it last time, but the right-wing and Republican leadership have effectively made this bill just about that specific language [of the enumerated categories of 'sexual orientation' and 'gender-identity'] in the minds of many legislators,” Palmquist said. “I think that is what’s making it closer this time.”

Equality NC is encouraging supporters to go to their website and send an action alert email to their legislators. “We strongly encourage people to follow that up with a phone call, to let them know they support the bill,” Palmquist said.

Supporters can participate in the action alert here: eqfed.org/campaign/HouseSVPA2

In the committee meeting on Tuesday, the leading opponent of the bill in the House, Minority Leader Skip Stam (R-Wake) said same-sex parents are “more dangerous than second-hand smoke.” Stam also “argued that explicitly protecting gay kids from bullying would lead to pedophilia and gay marriage,” WUNC public radio reported.

A second bill of interest to Equality NC and other equality and child welfare advocates is the Healthy Youth Act. It would create better and more accurate comprehensive sex health courses for students. The bill has already passed the House and awaits a vote in the Senate this week. As of Wednesday afternoon, it had been scheduled for a floor vote on Thursday, June 18.

Sean Kosofsky, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina, a member of a coalition working to pass the Healthy Youth Act, said the Senate version does not go far enough to protect and educate students.

“Most of our coalition believes that the Senate version, although superior to current law, is inferior to the House version,” he told Q-Notes. “It is a complicated bill in the Senate; it does other good things that the House version doesn’t do, buyt mostly we are not happy with with the Senate version.”

Echoing Kosofsky, Palmquist said the Senate version would still subject students to inaccurate and outdated information currently being taught in the state’s abstinence-until-marriage courses.

Kosofsky said his coalition is working hard to get the bill changed in the Senate, before it is passed. He said ironing out differences through a House and Senate conference committee would be “the last resort.”

Gov. Beverly Perdue has yet to take a public stance on either the School Violence Prevention Act or Healthy Youth Act this year. Palmquist said he fully expects the governor to “keep her commitment and sign the bills when they get to her desk.”

Antigay Bias Killings Highest Since 1999

http://advocate.com/news_detail_ektid91000.aspBy Julie Bolcer

The number of people murdered in anti-LGBT bias incidents increased by 28% in 2008 compared to the previous year, according to a report released on Tuesday by the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs. The 29 murders represent the highest number documented since 1999 and, when compared to statistics for other anti-LGBT crimes, suggest an increase in the severity of violence.

The number of victims overall who reported anti-LGBT violence in 2008 increased by 2% compared to 2007, with the largest increase — 64% — occurring in Milwaukee. Reported incidents there rose to 18 in 2008 from 11 in 2007.

Nationwide, reports of physical abuse by police increased to 25 incidents last year from 10 in 2007.

Sharon Stapel, executive director of the New York City Anti-Violence Project, which coordinates the coalition of programs in 25 states, said that some of the violence could be attributed to backlash against issues that arose during the heated presidential campaign. “The more visibility there is the more likely we’re going to see backlash, and that’s exactly what we see here,” she said.

Programs in Milwaukee; Minnesota; Chicago; Los Angeles; Colorado; Columbus, Ohio; Houston; Pennsylvania; New York City; Kansas City, Mo.; Michigan; and San Francisco submitted data for the new report.

Malignant Bisexuals

Ariablue introduced John Money’s term “malignant bisexuals” in a post related to Alice Dreger.  On Monday my partner Tina and I saw the documentary “Outrage” featuring Mike Rogers about the generally ultra right wing closet cases in congress who promote anti-gay/lesbian policies.

In many cases these creepy self loathing “wounded fags”  (Allan Ginsburg ref.) are married to women.  They hide behind their bigotry as though it was a shield. Perhaps it is and helps them to pass as straight.

Although the concept of malignant bisexuality raises an interesting point.  Positive bisexuality requires the admission of bisexuality which many see as a code word for gay or lesbian made by people too insecure to admit their same sex orientation.

I will ponder this more and return to this subject at a later date.

Alice Domurat Dreger

BY ANDREA BROWN

The annoyance known as Alice Domurat Dreger is a self-styled “hermaphrodite monger” who currently has a part-time job at North-western University.

http://www.tsroadmap.com/info/northwestern-university.html

Hate Monger would be a more accurate description of Dreger.

Alice Dreger is a well known supporter of anti-transsexual academics, such as Anne Lawrence who attack the reality and existence, of transsexual people,

http://www.tsroadmap.com/info/lawrence/anne-lawrence-incident.html

by sexualising, perversifying and dehumanising transsexual people. A lot of intersex people do not like Alice Dreger either.

http://www.tsroadmap.com/info/alice-dreger/alice-dreger.html

http://www.alicedreger.blogspot.com/

Alice Dreger has won a Guggenheim for 2008 to 2009, to pay for writing. If she wants more money, she should apply to the Pioneer Fund for grant aiding, if she has not already. http://www.pioneerfund.org/ They fund like-minded people. Of course no one in the Archives of Sexual Behaviour / International Journal of Transgenderism / Blanchard, Bailey, Dreger, Zucker, Lawrence / WPATH / Psychiatry world would be funded by the pioneer fund, share offices with its members, recommend them, have offices just down the corridor from them, have dinner with them, attend conferences with them, marry them or meet them for coffee at break time to discuss ways to remove groups that they don’t approve of from the human race.

Alice Dreger is a fan and friend of J. Michael Bailey and has defended him completely, every chance she has got. It is a strange position for someone to take who claims to be an ethicist, who was once a conservative catholic pro-life campaigner.

http://ai.eecs.umich.edu/people/conway/TS/%20Bailey/Greenberg-Bailey/Homosexual%20Eugenics.pdf%20

http://www.tsroadmap.com/info/bailey-eugenics.html

http://www.intersexualite.org/Dreger_Eugenics.html

http://www.tsroadmap.com/info/j-michael-bailey.html

How can Alice face her parents, after spending so many Saturdays with her family on anti-abortion picket lines, doing god’s work, condemning raped women, condemning children raped by priests and attacking clinicians giving women choice. Dreger’s parents were Right-to-Life, anti-abortion activists. Dreger’s father ran for public office on the Right-to-Life party line. Her support for Bailey is support for abortion of minorities; no matter what way she spins it. Those minorities appear to have been defined as anyone the Catholic Church disproves of.

Dreger is also a supporter of the dehumanisation of transsexual people by Blanchard, Bailey, Zucker, Lawrence and others.

http://www.tsroadmap.com/info/bailey-blanchard-lawrence.html

She supports Kenneth Zucker’s trans reparative treatment of children, better known as child abuse, in his clinic. A clinician who is constantly quoted by both www.narth.com and the Catholic Church, regarding transsexual people.

http://www.tsroadmap.com/info/kenneth-zucker.html

Then again Dreger, did spend her Saturdays as a youth, at anti-abortion rallies.

Part of Dreger’s career is to write about marginalized minorities, marginalizing them further, dehumanising them and pathologising them, so that the particular minority to be dehumanised, can be controlled, corralled and decimated. Another part of her career is to defend academics and clinicians who consider transsexual women to be sexual objects and have a pathological hatred of minorities. Her defence of J. Michael Bailey who claimed he was studying transsexual people for his book, The Man Who Would Be Queen is particularly illuminating (Bailey was actually looking for transgender prostitutes to have sex with, then dehumanise in sexual manner in his book).

http://www.tsroadmap.com/info/j-michael-bailey.html

Bailey is a good catholic name originally from Ireland, in case you did not know. Bailey makes a point of quoting ex Roman Catholic nun Janice Raymond, who gave evidence to congress attacking transsexual rights, which removed any access transsexual people have to Medicare in the United States of America. She also wrote the transphobic book, The Transsexual Empire.

http://www.bioethics.northwestern.edu/faculty/work/dreger/controversy_tmwwbq.pdf

Notice how she degrades the women making the complaints against Bailey, yet considers all people who have a pathological hatred of transsexual people and a need to perversify their entire existence, to be wonderful, truthful, have no ulterior motives and beyond reproach. The hate mongering in that article is blatant.

Dreger’s views on academic freedom are very interesting. They appear to be similar to those of the Catholic Church and others who impose censorship of anything they do not approve of. Sometimes I wonder if she has friends in the Congregation of the Faith, due to her similar behaviour.

IN 2007 a woman called Joelle Ruby Ryan tried to organise a small seminar on the subject of Janice Raymond’s and J. Michael Bailey’s attacks on transsexual people’s existence, the transphobia contained in those attacks, as well as the sexism of the attackers and other concurrent issues.

Upon hearing of this small conference/seminar, Alice Dreger went nuts.

How the hell is someone discussing two academics who have spent much their entire existence attacking transsexuals, an attack on Alice Dreger’s academic freedom. Dreger is the one who tried to stop a student from giving a talk to a few other students and possibly a few interested others.

It worked out for the best in the end though, as students, academics, journalists and activists saw Dreger’s attack for what it was, a direct attack on a transsexual student with the express desire to stop her academic career in its tracks and force her to stay quiet. Thankfully Joelle Ruby Ryan did not stay quiet. She called Dreger’s bluff, stood up to her threats and in the best interests of academia, defended her right to freedom of speech and thought.

I do have a bad feeling this will not be the last time that Alice Dreger attempts to stifle academic debate and the advancement of a student, struggling to get by.

These links will illuminate the matter of academic freedom I have raised.

Alice Dreger’s views on dwarfs are very interesting. They give an insight into her mindset.

http://www.thehastingscenter.org/Bioethicsforum/Post.aspx?id=740&terms=Lavish+dwarf+and+%23filename+*.html

Dreger is obsessed with both transsexual and intersex people, and with perversifying male to female transsexual people in all respects, fixating on minority groups whom Dreger considers freaks and subhuman. There maybe the possibility that she studies them so intensely, because subconsciously she feels they make her more attractive and normal by comparison.

Along those lines consider Dreger’s obsession with her own appearance, as evidenced by the virtual facial feminisation she has done to her own online pictures.

http://www.tsroadmap.com/notes/index.php/site/alice_dregers_virtual_facial_feminiation_surgery

Compare that with her accusations of narcissism on the part of transsexual people she has an issue with.

Futhermore, Dreger’s narcissism goes way beyond just her physical appearance. She also exhibits grandiose feelings about her stature in the world, as evidenced in the following page.

http://www.alicedreger.com/LMS.html

It is interesting to notice that Alice Dreger, when not attempting to completely revise history, Catholic Church style, by ignoring facts and accepting facts only from the sexually deranged/repressed. Dreger is fixated on changing her appearance to make her look less like her Dominican nun sister, instead of looking like a stereotypical butch lesbian or nun.

Which brings me to another subject.

Dreger never shuts up about sex. She is completely obsessed with sex to the point that she fits in perfectly with her friends from Chicago North Western University and University of Toronto/CAMH.

The level of sexual obsession and sexual deviancy required to be part of that clique will not be encountered in bars, nightclubs, even brothels, porn movies or BDSM events. It will only be encountered amongst child traffickers, pimps, rapists, paedophiles, catholic priests, nuns and popes.

It is interesting to note that Dreger’s biological sister, is a member of the Dominican nuns. I wonder how Sister Mary Diana Dreger reconciles her Catholic Church teachings, with Alice’s support of eugenicists who want to abort entire minorities before birth?

The Catholic Church vehemently opposes gay rights and transsexual rights. That leads to a question that needs to be asked.  Bear in mind that the present pope was once in the Hitler Youth and would have read from Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler every day, besides being fed a diet of eugenics propaganda on a daily basis.

Does the Catholic Church secretly approve of Eugenics against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and transsexual people?

http://www.tsroadmap.com/info/bailey-eugenics.html

http://www.intersexualite.org/Dreger_Eugenics.html

How can Alice face her parents and sister after spending so many Saturdays with her family on anti-abortion picket lines? Dreger’s parents were Right-to-Life, anti-abortion activists. Dreger’s father ran for public office on the Right-to-Life party line.

I wonder how Dreger reconciles teaching ethics, with her sister being a member of an organisation, which has systematically abused children for decades?

Does Alice support her sister Mary being a member of an organisation which attacks gay rights every chance it gets?

Does Alice support her sister Mary being a member of an organisation which attacks womens rights every chance it gets?

Does Alice consider the Catholic Church to be an ethical organisation, after it abused hundreds of thousands of children worldwide?

I wonder how Mary Diana Dreger reconciles Alice’s support for extermination of an entire minority by abortion or maybe the Catholic Church secretly approves of selective abortion of minorities?

I wonder how Sister Mary Diana Dreger supports her sister Alice claiming to have swapped services for sex?  http://www.alicedreger.com/my_mystique.html

How does Sister Mary Diana Dreger feel about her sister Alice posing nude for the front cover of her book, Intersex in the Age of Ethics?

Dreger’s sister, Sister Mary Diana Dreger, graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine with a medical degree and a special award.  She has spent her life as a Dominican nun. The Dominican nuns will now be able to keep medical matters in house. The Dominicans operate elementary schools, high schools, and colleges in seven states in the USA, where they educate young women in the tradition of the Catholic Church. The tradition of the Catholic Church is that women are to get married, have lots of children, love there husband no matter how much he beats her and to turn a blind eye to priests and nuns having sex with children. For further information regarding Dominican nuns read:

http://www.childabusecommission.ie/rpt/02-15.php

Now the Catholic Church will be able to treat child injuries in house, avoiding pesky questions from doctors, social services and police. This type of training for nuns also allows opus dei members, who have whipped themselves too much in there frenzied worshipping. Of course the whipping in that context has no connection with BDSM whatsoever, according to Opus Dei.  I think a dominatrix should be asked for an opinion regarding that.

NOW Calls on Obama to Withdraw DOMA Brief and Renounce Discriminatory Law

NOW Calls on Obama to Withdraw DOMA Brief and Renounce Discriminatory Law

June 16, 2009

The National Organization for Women calls on President Barack Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder to withdraw the U.S. Department of Justice brief filed in support of the Federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and to publicly renounce this discriminatory law. The brief was reportedly written by Bush administration holdovers, and if that is the case, this administration must immediately make it clear that President Obama does not support this position.

Under DOMA, same-sex couples who wed in states where their marriages are legal are still denied federal marriage benefits, and other states may refuse to recognize their unions.

“President Obama ran on a Democratic Platform that specifically said: ‘We oppose the Defense of Marriage Act and all attempts to use this issue to divide us,’” said NOW President Kim Gandy. “This brief is indeed divisive, and the administration must disavow it immediately.”

The government motion filed in Smelt v. United States of America states that the federal branch may discriminate against same-sex couples because all 50 states sanction the “traditional and universally-recognized form of marriage” and that DOMA is “a cautious policy of federal neutrality towards a new form of marriage”

“Neutrality is not what DOMA is about,” said Gandy. “This law flat-out favors one form of legal marriage over another. The Obama administration has no business treating a discriminatory law as neutral, and should instead be working with Congress to develop legislation repealing this harmful law. The Bush years are over — we expect much better from our new president.”

Human Rights Campaign Statement on the Obama Administration’s Defense of the Defense of Marriage Act In the Smelt v. U.S. Case

http://www.hrc.org/12905.htm

“We call on the President to send legislation repealing DOMA to Congress,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese

6/12/2009

WASHINGTON – The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, issued a statement today regarding the Obama Administration’s decision to defend the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act in a lawsuit filed on behalf of a gay couple who married in California.  Arthur Smelt and Christopher Hammer, who were married in California on July 10, 2008, filed a suit in federal court in December challenging the constitutionality of Proposition 8 and the federal Defense of Marriage Act.  The Administration responded yesterday.

“The Administration apparently determined that it had a duty to defend DOMA in the courts.  The President has just as strong a duty to put his principles into action, and end discrimination against LGBT people and our families,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese. “We call on the President to send legislation repealing DOMA to Congress,” he added.

Since taking office in January, President Obama has taken bold steps to deliver on principles and promises he articulated during his campaign.  In just his first six months in office, President Obama has signed the Lily Ledbetter Act into law, paved the way for life-saving stem cell research, eliminated barriers to women’s health and reproductive care abroad, expanded insurance coverage for millions of children, ended the torture of detainees, and called for the notorious prison at Guantanamo Bay to be closed.  However, this community is frustrated by the Administration’s silence, until today, on a critical matter that the President voiced support for during his campaign—repealing DOMA.

“President Obama must see that this extraordinary record of commitment to the public good at last be extended to end discrimination against LGBT people,” said Solmonese.  “Mr. President, you have called DOMA ‘abhorrent’ and pledged to be a fierce advocate for our community.  As we approach the 40th anniversary of Stonewall, it is time for you to use your leadership to translate these principles into meaningful action.”

HRC also has grave concerns about the arguments that the Administration put forth in this case, arguments that simply do not reflect the experiences that LGBT people face or the contributions that they make. The Administration’s brief claims that DOMA is a valid exercise of Congress’s power, is consistent with Equal Protection or Due Process principles, and does not impinge upon rights that are recognized as fundamental.  The brief further claims that DOMA is a “neutral” federal position on same-sex marriages, and permits the states to determine on their own whether to recognize same-sex marriages. The most alarming argument, grounded neither in fact nor in law, reads as follows:

[DOMA amounts to] a cautious policy of federal neutrality towards a new form of marriage. DOMA maintains federal policies that have long sought to promote the traditional and uniformly-recognized form of marriage, recognizes the right of each State to expand the traditional definition if it so chooses, but declines to obligate federal taxpayers in other States to subsidize a form of marriage that their own states do not recognize.

“Same-sex couples and their families are not seeking subsidies,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese.  “We pay taxes equally, contribute to our communities equally, support each other equally, pay equally into Social Security, and participate equally in our democracy.  Equal protection is not a handout.  It is our right as citizens,” he said.

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.

China posts rules of sex change

(Xinhua)

2009-06-16 23:05

BEIJING – To change gender in China costs more than money. One must be free of a criminal record and be single if he or she wants to have a sex change, the Ministry of Health said Tuesday in a new regulation.

Other conditions include having lived publicly as the other gender for more than two years, at least five years of unwavering desire to change, more than one year of psychotherapy and a commitment by local police to issue a new ID card after the operation.

The ministry posted the regulation online to solicit opinions from its local bureaus, which are due by July 10.

Ministry officials were not immediately available for comment.

The regulation also set thresholds for medical facilities and doctors eligible for transsexual operations. For example, hospitals must have an ethics committee to evaluate applications and a plastic surgery department that has operated for more than 10 years. Surgeons must have more than five years of experience in transsexual operations.

There are an estimated 1,000 transsexuals in China.

(Right…  Whatever)

Pride Day and Transgender Specific Pride Day Events

I understand why why straight sisters went to Pride Day events in San Francisco and LA.

They were rockin’ good parties.

Those of us who were lesbian identified marched with the lesbians or with organizations to which we belonged.

The queens rode floats being fabulous and showing lots of skin and looked at those of us who assimilated or were lesbians as though we were pathetic because we weren’t cock crazy the way they were.

I went to Dyke Marchs.

I let myself be talked into marching with Trranssexual Menace a couple of times and felt fucking disgusted.  It was so freaky I don’t have words for it, subjecting myself to the scrutiny of all those people for something that accomplished nothing.

Trans-Pride.  WTF.  I’m not proud of being transsexual.  It was a freak accident of birth.  It was something I had an operation to correct.

Now the transgenders want to have separate Parades and events.  I’ve heard these events  have become standard in Los Angeles and else where.

I view these as being by and for full time transvestites and not for women identified women.  I’m female now.  Why would I identify with a bunch of trannies.  To me this is yet more identity politics run amok.

I never needed a T or for that matter a B stuck onto L/G.  I felt included as a lesbian.  As a bisexual I didn’t consider myself part of the lesbian community when I was in a relationship with a man.

Grafting Trans on to the Gay and Lesbian community has made it harder for gay and lesbian people to get their issues addressed.

As a lesbian my issues aren’t even that closely related to gay men’s issues.  In fact they tend to be much more closely related to the issues of all women.

I have specific issues such as marriage equality that are L/G issues but many issues such as getting nationalized health insurance are not nor are matters of women’s equality.

None of these things have anything to do with transgender.

Indeed I am more oppressed by transgender activists who have colonized the lives of WBTs to support their own claims than I am by straight society for once upon a time having had an operation.

Viviane Namaste

Viviane Namaste, an associate professor at Concordia University, is the recipient of the 2009 Canadian Award for Action on HIV/AIDS and Human Rights.

Namaste was presented with the award at a public reception in Toronto as part of the Canadian Legal Network’s Symposium on HIV, Law and Human Rights.

The Awards for Action on HIV/AIDS and Human Rights recognize outstanding individuals and organizations that protect the rights and dignity of people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.

Namaste’s research and activism address communities of people invisible in HIV/AIDS prevention and services, including bisexuals and transsexuals.

Namaste holds the Research Chair in HIV/AIDS and Sexual Health and is an Associate Professor at the Simone de Beauvoir Institute at Concordia University in Montréal.

In 1995, Namaste co-founded ASTTQ, Action Santé: Travesti(e)s et Transsexuel(le)s du Québec, and subsequently coordinated this HIV project for several years. She also set up one of the first HIV prevention organizations in Canada by and for trans sex workers.

She has conducted extensive research in Québec and Ontario on the HIV prevention and service needs of transsexuals. She is currently conducting research on the HIV prevention needs of bisexual men and women (see the Polyvalence website). Like her work on transsexuals, this project seeks to examine gaps in HIV prevention and research, with an aim to developing innovative solutions that connect knowledge and action.

Namaste has served as an expert witness in a number of immigration cases and in a constitutional challenge to the Ontario government’s decision to stop covering sex reassignment surgery under the provincial health insurance plan. She has also published several academic books on transsexuals and health, with a particular focus on questions of HIV, including Invisible Lives: The Erasure of Transsexual and Transgendered People, which won the 2001 Outstanding Book Award of the Gustavus Myers Center for the Study of Bigotry and Human Rights.

Transsexuals Are Not Transgender

I am at a point where I will not accept that some one is transsexual and not transgender until they actually have sex reassignment surgery and I am not talking hormones and breast implant or chest reduction surgery.

I am tired of people who have no intention of getting SRS claiming they are transsexual because they think that somehow makes them more serious than if they use the term transgender for themselves.

I am even more tired of people telling me that I am being a bitch and an elitist because I say I am transsexual and not part of the transgender community because I had SRS.  I find myself feeling used.

Transgender Activists have used those of us who get SRS to legitimatize the idea of those who will never get SRS. They then criticize us us for saying we have our own causes now that we are women or men as the case may be and that we find feminism, same-sex marriage, media reform, anti-globalization, environmental causes more important than the transgender cause.

Some people after SRS are even apolitical and just want to assimilate into the sex they have been reassigned to.

Most of us have zero interest in redefining away the “gender binary”.  In fact many of us don’t see that much of a rigidly defined gender binary in the modern western world where both men and women hold down crappy oppressive jobs where everyone wears the company designated virtual uniform.

When it was announced last week that long time Gay and Lesbian Rights Advocate Chastity Bono had started the T to M process and had come out as transsexual taking the name Chaz I wasn’t surprised by the ignorant babble of the Christo-Fascist morons. That is to be expected whenever anyone does anything that isn’t consistent with their strangely bigoted superstitious belief structure and its embrace of misogynistic gender roles.

But then we have the unfortunate spokesperson, Mara Keisling once again opening her trap and shoving both feet into it

http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/06/11/ent.chastity.bono/index.html?iref=newssearch

And on Pam’s House Blend

http://www.pamshouseblend.com/diary/11443/oh-no-mara-keisling-didnt-really-just-say-that-did-she

Someone’s decision to transition does not necessarily mean they are undergoing gender reassignment surgery, and in many cases they do not, said Mara Keisling, executive director of the Washington-based National Center for Transgender Equality.

“The whole media fixation on surgery is kind of misplaced,” she said. “Almost no transgender people ever have surgery. We don’t have any idea how many do.” An estimated one-quarter to one-half percent of the American population is transsexual, however, Keisling said. “It’s sort of a general term that encompasses both or either a social transition or a medical transition.”

Keisling said she was unaware of the specifics in Bono’s case, but speaking generally, a transition means that he will now want to be “known, seen, viewed” as a male.

“The actual details depend on his needs and wants and his doctor’s needs and wants,” she said.

Oh no, she didn’t really say that, did she?

I’m afraid she did.  Call it a moment of accidental candor that revealed the whole contemptuous agenda of the transgender movement and their hatred of transsexuals who actually get SRS and get on with their lives if you will.  Try to explain it away or clarify it but those of us who have been saying that the transgender activists have been colonizing and erasing the lives of transsexuals for some 20 years now know this is actually how transgenders view us.

I struggle with the idea WBTs and MBTs should support hate crimes bills and anti-discrimination laws because that is the right thing to do.  Yet I feel used by people who have colonized my life and who refuse to distinguish between me and a bunch of…

…  Dare I say it?  Men in dresses.
